Has anyone experienced a brake drum working loose and snagging on the shoes resulting in the need to replace the whole rear brake drum assembly? What is more remarkable is that the car has only done 7k km! I gather these brake units are now obsolete. Apparently there is a replacement system that can be used but you can't buy one, only a pair due to balancing issues. Can anyone shed light on this?

On the wire wheel models the rear brake drum is solely held in place with four ½" UNF setscrews. In the case of cast wheels their secure fixing abuts the brake drum I believe, so an extra level of security.
Surprised in either case that the brake drum would come loose. I guess this could happen with wires though and setscrews only finger tight. What did you find in this regard when wheels removed?

Iain, someone's given you some duff info on that one, all the various parts of the rear brakes have been in use for many years & were so right upto the Trads being phased out in 2020 ish, all components are readily available

Welcome to TM Iain. You'd be better posting this in the relevant section - either for Pre-CX cars, or in the Repair/Servicing section. As for drum brakes no longer available - someone has given you total wrong info there

I have known of a brake drum becoming loose on a friend’s Morgan a few years back. The four little set screws that hold the drum on should have star washers on them and I guess a proper engineering approach, would mean renewing them each time they are removed. But I always also put a bit of thread-lock on first. Agree with others’ comments about them being obsolete!

Not sure where you are in the world, but Brands Hatch Morgans will know what parts you need and will ship anywhere.

Thanks Guys,
This advice was from the Oz Morgan agent here in Melbourne. He (apparently) sourced the info from Morgan UK! For technology decades old it completely threw me. Moreover, I thought the wire wheel would be flush with the drum for added security and remove reliance on what are quite short small screw bolts! I have emailed Morgan but will now contact Brands Hatch Morgan as recommended. Forking out GBP 2000 for parts alone did not go down well with my "manager"!

I won't pull any punches here..... I would be very cautious of any information provided by the local dealer!
