Land Rover is heading the same way.
The new Defender being a prime example of fat jelly mould design.

Conversely the Indians namely TATA have turned Jaguar into anonymous amorphous lumps which bear no resemblance to a classy car that they once were. The problem is with us all being old farts, the young people don't care and it's what they want to drive, no sense of history or class  .. I agree. I passed my test on Dad's 3.4 S Type.

The problem is with us all being old farts, the young people don't care and it's what they want to drive, no sense of history or class .. I agree. I passed my test on Dad's 3.4 S Type. Now that is travelling in style, what a great car to pass your test in  The only memorable thing about the Triumph Herald I took mine in was the phenomenal steering for three point turns etc.

The new Defender being a prime example of fat jelly mould design. Spot on, they are slowly but surely expunging the great chunky functional design, I have no doubt at all they will all find homes fittingly amongst the McDonalds generation.

Disagree 100% - in my experience the F type with a decent engine ( ie not the 4 pot) is an excellent sports car every bit as good as a Porker of similar price. Sure there are plusses and minusses as there are for all cars but the preference of Brits for non British products over what we make ourselves is a great economic weakness.Its the attitude that killed JLR whilst worst products from Renault or Citroen or FIAT succeeded. You cant lose your home market and survive.

Indeed .... the destruction of the British bike industry (some suspect management aside) was financed by a million domestic mopeds .... and India is currently carrying on that trend.

Well they are churning out loads of lardy SUV's which is what the current generation seem to love, so who knows TATA will maybe rise like a Phoenix out of the ashes of the Midlands My whole point is that this is not British money at all is it - I'm listening....

I remember when the steelworks car parks around Sheffield filled up with foreign cars.........
I remember when a schoolmate's dad bought a Toyota in about 1968, the one with the reverse slant front and twin headlights, and I think it had a FOUR SPEED FAN!
They rotted as fast as the Fords and BL stuff, but they were tricked up with gadgets.

Yup, "all fur coat and no knickers" as they used to say in Rose Lane in Norwich Apart from the Datsun SSS which were released in South Africa when we were living out there in the early 70's and they went like off a shovel I have not been attracted to any of their products, I would make an exception if someone gifted me a Mitsubishi Zero, they looked good and performed well as the Americans found out.

Last weekend I was at a house party, very posh too. In the car parking area there was a D B fastback (£500k..) a Bentley 4*4 thing, some vw golfs, a smartcar, my wife's Suzuki...., A few Hondas and an MG big 4*4ry thing in a wonderful metallic maroon which I thought looked the best of all the cars. Really, it looked alright.
