Jaguar ?????? Lagonda's own straight 6 was the reason DB bought the company. Developments of that engine went all the way to the Aston DB6 and some later cars when the V8 was late.

Can`t remember ever reading of or seeing a pic of a Lagonda Rapier, what a wonderful machine. Thanks for posting the pics Richard, now off to improve on my education via the www..

There was also the Rapier (Rapier) George. 46 were built with various two and four seat bodies mostly from old stock when Lagonda was sold to Alan Good in 1935 with Rapier production rights and remaining stock bought up. The company then formed traded under the unoriginal name of Rapier Cars Ltd. They carefully ground the "Lagonda" name off the cam covers. The pre-selector gearbox remained. Needless to say Mike has a four seat example of one of those as well wink

The brief on the sweet little 4 cylinder DOHC engine commisioned by Lagonda was that it should be "Britain's finest 1100cc engine". Although production limitations decreed the block was cast iron rather than design intended aluminium, it developed 50 hp, a healthy output for the early 30's. A great shame the complexity on such a small engine decreed a short production life.

Wonderful as the Lagonda is, I suspect my +8 has been a far more suitable machine for all the uses I have put it to over the 20 years or so I have owned it.

The bodywork does inded have that wonderful patina of age. To me this is one example of where I wouldn't wreck the 88 year-old interior by replacing it, careful attention and treatment with hide food would probably work wonders.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Lagonda Richard, very much appreciated. my all time favourite Lagonda is the V12 that I think Stanley Mann had advertised quite a few years back and may be the same one I pictured at the LeMans Classic a few years back, a real work of art. I may have posted pics of it before..?

Patina..? I have seen a wonderful and rather special local Riley MPH that apparently took part in the Montie Carlo Rally when new, and looked a tad more..err..worn than the Lagonda, I suspect it is ever a bit of a conundrum for owners of such machinery as to how best to proceed if they intend to use it from time to time... The MPH I mentioned was no stranger to being used and enjoyed even on PCT`s (production car trials).. I doubt I would have the courage to do that in the lovely old Lagonda, I suspect I would feel duty bound to preserve it as it is, using it rarely, much as I seem to have done with my Morgan in recent years..!
