This information was lifted from the RAC WEBSITE.. Does anyone have any additional information?

These documents should always be carried in Spain:

• Full, valid UK driving licence
• Proof of ID (passport)
• Motor insurance certificate.
• V5 registration document

Motorists are also required by law to carry the following items when driving to avoid hefty on-the-spot fines:

• Reflective jackets (although not mandatory to carry, you could be fined for walking on the road or hard shoulder if not wearing one)
• Headlamp beam deflectors
• UK (NOT GB) sticker. This must be visible no matter what is on your number plate.

Apparently, warning triangles are only mandatory on vehicles with 4 wheels and above. (I'll be taking mine though!)

Other useful information:

• Crash helmets are not required if you are wearing a seatbelt
• From 2nd August 2021, an insurance green card is not required in Spain.
• You may exceed the speed limit by 20km/h to overtake a slower vehicle outside built-up areas, except on motorways and dual carriageways.
• Spain has motorways with tolls. You can pay for them with cash or a credit card. Most motorways also have an electronic system of payment known as Telepeaje or Via T, which allows you to travel without stopping at toll booths.
• In an emergency, dial 112 - you can dial 112 from anywhere in Europe and an operator will connect you to an emergency service in the country you're visiting. Operators can answer your call in their native language, English or French.

If planning to drive any of the motorways in Spain I would get the SANEF/EMOVIS tag.

Andy....we have two warning triangles on board as this seemed to be required for (cars in) Spain when we first took our M3W there in 2012....

Even more than in France, watch out for other drivers trying to photogragh you on the move....and chats with people at stops take even longer....

Good morning Gentlemen

A couple of comments.

Bunny wrote: "You may exceed the speed limit by 20km/h to overtake a slower vehicle outside built-up areas, except on motorways and dual carriageways.". NOT TRUE anyomore! The rules just changed and you're never allowed to exceed the speed limit. Very stupid new rule, as it will put drivers at risk while overtaking (if you follow the norms). This point is creating a lot of negative comments. But it seems there is no way back about this silly and dangerous new rule.

About the triangles, you need to carry two, or, again new norm, a compact V16 orange flash light. If you carry the V16 flashlight, no need to carry any triangles.

Ah! before i forget: I'm Spanish laugh2 so (I guess) my info is supposed to be true. hide

One last comment: anyone travelling in Spain from September and on, please do not hesitate to contact the Speedy Marmots! We'll be glad to give you our best advice, and, why not, meet and join you for one or two days !

In Portugal you don't need yellow reflective vest or triangle in a 3 wheeled car. What you need is your drivers license, the car registration document, proof of valid insurance for it.

Oh and although policemen always get confused about this when they stop me, you don't need to use a crash helmet either. Three wheeled cars with enveloping structural body don't require helmets. The piaggio APE is what they're used to, and sometimes they say that since I don't have a roof I'd need the helmet, but I only need to point out to the frame around me, the seatbelts and roll hoops to shut them up about this ... it was worked so far).

Just as Marmota mentioned about those that will travel through (or to) Spain, any TMer visiting Portugal will be a friend, so don't hesitate to contact me if you want.

Thank you. Now we just have to get there. The hardest part may be the 25 miles from home to the Tunnel!

Hey Mario! We need to meet some day!

We have a beautiful route planned in Portugal. We don't know when we'll be able to do it. But We'll warn you way in advance to make sure you can join us, at least part of the trip.

My best regards

Thanks for the info Javier. Those V16 lamps are a new one on me but what a good idea - more compact than triangles and cheaper too. thumbs
