I agree there is too much tech and I don't see why the car I drive records my life. My Volvo tracks my journeys, not sure if anyone else can access that data. If the car is stolen Volvo can, apparently, locate it if requested.

As of 2024 all new cars and vans must have a black box data recorder that the Police can interrogate. My Tesla has gone: I reset the software to eliminate all my data from the car, but has it really all gone?

I bet you’ve all got your phones with you when driving? I'd love one like this ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/04/Old-school-car-phone.jpg) I have one on my desk at work if you would like it. Better still as it ran on the original analogue transmission system (long since switched off and sold off) there is absolutely no chance of it ringing and disturbing your life with an offer to save you from dieselgate, a car crash or new solar heating incentives. I would say it needs a charger but in truth it would not make much difference. Actually that's wrong. I had a later model with an almost huge LCD by the standards of the time. Ah those little LED displays were fun. I do need a battery charger as it can play snake as the first one with an on-board game. Ohh the excitement when it was released with a game as well. We could barely contain ourselves. Only £1700 to be able to play snake and (battery life permitting) make a call or two at £75p/min.

Thanks Alistair, but I was being a bit ironic (or do I mean sardonic ?). A colleague in Norway had the first such phone that I'd ever seen, hugely impressed as it was almost as big as his little Volvo estate. One day I'll get a smartphone, until then I make do with an ancient phone that lets me call, receive incoming, and get the codes for Ebay etc. As you can tell I'm not really much into phones/texting etc.....

So was mine except the bit about only useful thing they did was eat battery and play a game. Oh and make a shocking profit for Racal. Was your colleagues phone a Mobira Cityman (the first device of a little company called Nokia) I am guessing it was the same shape and size as his Volvo. https://www.retrowow.co.uk/retro_collectibles/80s/nokia_cityman.phpThat was the one I had as well.

Mine is even older 1913 Erickson. But I must admit the smart phone is handy for talking photos of the old phone for posting on Talk Morgan. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/05/Resized_20220702_104654.jpg) I want to get a second one and wire them together but She Who Must Be Obeyed says one old Telephone in the house is enough. Plus I feel if Grandchildren played with it then it would probably get damaged. More back on topic, I recently got an e-mail from Google saying your recent time line is attached, it showed where I had been in a car, on a bike or walking and told me how many km's I had done by each method. I assume it can differentiate between car, pushbike and walking by the speed?
