I have a 2018 M3W and have added an inline oil cooler under the bonnet with a temp controlled fan and an oil temp gauge. It also has the urban cooling fan. In May went to the DGR in Charlotte NC and the temp was in the mid 90's (and humid). Never went slow enough for the urban fan to work, but never fast enough to get good air flow. The oil temp was between 240-250! WOW it looked crappy when I changed it out!
BTW, sorry I have not been on the site much, I retired last year and I do not seem to have as much free time!

Not sure if you are expecting a response or not but I suppose my response would be that 240-250 is not excessively hot, did your oil cooler fan come on, what temp setting is your oil cooler thermostat set at and what is the definition of looking crap, if it was a dark color that's normal? The Urban Cooler fan won't come on unless you are stationary or going under 12mph.

yes the fan was running all the time. Darker than normal (I have 16000 on the M3W and had HD's for years). And yes, too fast for the urban cooling fan and too slow to really cool. Normally, the oil is about 200-210

BTW, sorry I have not been on the site much, I retired last year and I do not seem to have as much free time! where is the cool air for the inline oil cooler coming from, under the bonnet? is the air being pushed back under the bonnet?

As Stephen suggests the location of the oil cooler fan and the air flow created might be helping in the heating of the oil in certain conditions especially as you say it was running all the time. A running oil temperature of 200 - 210 when the engine is up to proper running temperature seems a bit on the low side, should be around 220 - 230.
