John ... indeed semi-autos are a halfway house (and can be driven on an auto licence ... just not anything with a clutch) ..... though in the same way Morgan driving differs from Audi driving in its sense of engagement, so a clutch and manual shift differs from a paddle auto in terms of driver engagement .... happy to acknowledge that I'm increasingly in the minority when it comes to such things. We do seem to have a generation on the way that see cars as 'meh!' If not downright the Devil's work so the finer points of gearchanging may soon be moot. 🙂

You reminded me of when I went to view my old (1957) Morgan. Took it out for a test drive, coming up the road to a turn I doubled declutched into third. The seller commented that I could drive!
Just about to start teaching my granddaughter to drive. She wants to learn on a manual. Probably will show her how to double declutch, but not when she gets to her test. My boys were told quite sternly by the examiner that double declutching is totally unnecessary.

Up at 5am. 83 miles out and back into the Notts/Lincs borders once again. Out through Clumber Park, passing close to the Major Oak, and down as far as Ollerton. Out there it was thick mist. So misty that I needed the wipers for about 40 minutes, and droplets were coming over the screen. It was cool, and exceptionally quiet. An amazing drive. Back home just after 7.30 and still only 17.5c.

We swapped seats by the mailboxes at the entrance to the small road, and thus began his first lesson in The Defeat of the Millenial Anti-Theft Device.

My garage now smells of burnt clutch, and I got a nasty email from the differential. The lad has much to learn. So bloody much.

Seems they start later and later now. I have a nephew who didn't learn until mid twenties, his brother later still. I'd stripped down a six cylinder Austin engine from an old truck by the age of 14 and had mastered the clutch earlier still.

I'm on the Klipsch audio forum from time to time. There you can provide the individual posts with smilies, thumbs up and trophies. Your post would have gotten something like that from me.

330 + very hot miles to Silverstone for the BDC event. A glorious day but it was bloody hot. Breakfast at the Super sausage cafe on the A5. Coming home we stopped at Krazy Horse to see Nobbie in the spares dept as Belle had lost a headlight rim plus they have air con. Dan let us loiter to cool down whilst hoping to sell us a new car. Thanks Dan & Nobbie .

As you can see it isn't only Morgan who have gone off road

John,
you are made of stronger stuff than I.... low 30s here and it leaves me totally exhausted.
I drove the "66 Boxster" down to the stable yard this evening to turn the horse out and it was so very hot. The Porsche has brutally efficient A/C, so hood and windows down I was bathed in cold air.
Another hot one tomorrow, I think.

Lovely run out to pick up an ex military mate of mine who needed a lift home after a heavy reunion drinking day.

As I was parked up on the Embankment a rather nice lady came by and said that is the loveliest car I have ever seen, great taste obviously, my mate turned up mid flow and said what is it about you, so I put him right and told him he needs a Morgan in his life.

Lovely coolish 25 miler perfect end to the day.

went to the motorist cafe this morning, met the owner of a nice flat rad (forgot to get his name). the place was packed but a lot of the cars were modern, the cafe has changed a lot from the original Blue train, no sign of the old harrison lathe that was in the corner of the cafe (it must have weighed more than 20tons) any way a good day out.

Rhode Island! - my mother’s home state. I remember summers at Bristol (I once owned a Herreshoff hat).
