I'm from Scranton, Pennsylvania, home of the Erie/Lackawana Railroad. I moved from there in 1960.
Went back a couple of years ago and they had a new train museum with a number of locomotives.
I NEVER realized how BIG they were until then. How they were able to manufacture them so many years ago is bewildering.

There's nothing quite like the power of big iron and steam!

If you are down Swanage way try and visit the steam railway when they have a guest loco in. We saw Flying Scotsman in 2019, the best vantage point is from the footbridge.

I am not a railway man but the Braveheart looks very stunning.
It somehow reminds me of some fotos from old Bently here on TM

I can see that clearly now you point it out, big solid engineering, lots of oily bits and pure simple power I love them too thumbs

Yes a bit of the theme here being a devotee of my Plus 8 and favourite car "The Beast of Turin" they are all a visual and audiological feast love

The trouble with large locos is that one needs space to get the whole thing in frame grin2

Earlier today, on my local line at Cheltenham Racecourse Station.
Also tried to get a shot of Royal Highland Fusilier, but failed with both digital cameras I had with me. Hopefully captured on film.
