K, thanks for posting the link.. I would not turn my nose up at the 54, (-: but the vintage desires that drew me to Morgan ownership caused me to prefer this one, which is similar to the one I photographed at LeMans.

Jensen 541 George with the Austin 4 litre D series truck engine. I owned a later CV8 with the Chrysler 383 (6.3 litre) engine and maybe the first to have four wheel disc brakes. That took the skin off my head many times when exiting from under the huge bonnet as it had a significant beak (just below badge).



It was as a passenger in a friend's 541 that a Jensen nearly did for me though. A supermarket delivery truck on the A3 pulled up short when a dog ran across the road. The indifferent drum brakes on the Jensen and lack of underun protection on the truck allowed us to slide under its tailgate, ripping chunks of fibreglass off the top of bonnet before we stopped just as windscreen cracked in front of my face!

With such a beautiful summer I drive almost every day.
But today was special.
I had to go to the Belmog for a new pedal spring.
It is a round trip of 120 Km.
On the B roads, traffic did not progress well.
And today was, I think, the hottest summer day so far.
And that's where it came in handy.
I think it's been 3 or 4 years since I've used it.
The air conditioning.
It does work perfect at low speed to keep the footwell cool.
At higher speeds, there is enough wind to feel comfortable without, but in traffic Perfect.
I left at 1.30pm and was back home at 5pm.
First a nice cool beer and at 6 am the spring was already in place.
And that's what I think is a perfect Morgan day.

You are very lucky that it worked. General advice for air conditioning is to use it regularly otherwise rubber seals can quickly degrade leading to costly repairs. Best to switch it on for a short time at least once a month whether needed or not.

RichardV6 .... the Jensens were another of the cars that went through a prolonged price doldrums .... another one I should have bought while I had the chance .... seeing that beautiful gunmetal 541 in the museum made me kick myself for not taking the chance to own one .... part of the problem for them was their individual styling looked way out during the 'slab-sided/wedge/sharp edge' times .... seeing a well presented one now the design holds up a lot better than it appeared back then ... still 'individual' but interesting.

K, My first introduction to Jensen was in the form of the CV8 I mentioned, it had lain in a garage at the back of a large house for a number of years, the exhaust had mostly ended up on the floor as all bran flakes. A pal was asked to see if he could get it running and I went along to give him a hand... There was a problem with the fuel system, and being young and stupid my pal handed me a milk bottle with some fuel in it and asked me to gently pour some down he four barrels of the Carter carb while he spun the engine... I performed as instructed till the bugga spat back flames and I was outa there sharpish with a bottle of fuel still in my hands and a few scars to remind me to think a bit more about handling fuel..(-: Think the CV8 was the first time I came across Dunlop brakes..

Some years later while in an Aston Martin frame of mind I made some enquiries re spare parts for another abandoned fuel guzzling car, needles to say I gave up on that idea pretty quickly, but came across an Interceptor and phoned Croperdy Bridge garage who informed me they had every part I might need and the cost of a whole engine was less than an Aston crank... I was persuaded I put £60 worth of petrol through the Interceptor during it`s restoration, just to fire up the engine and listen to it now and again... On the road it was silent death, on it`s original cross ply tyres and with 6276cc of relaxed V8 and Torqueflight auto box you could easily be doing over a ton and think you were merely cruising gently along... Not something that ever happens in a Trad...?

I had been thinking for some time if she doesn't work anymore I'll throw everything out.
But a Morgan always surprises
