I've noticed that some people have fitted elasticated cargo nets to the sides of the footwells. What nets have you used and how have they been fixed?

Hi Andy, Here's a thread from 2017 on my install. I riveted them to the side panels of the Coco Mats I bought, and then Velcro'd the assembly to the side panel. Still working well. Cargo net install on the 2nd page of this post:

I bought them from Amazon, can look up specifically which ones, don't recall at the moment. The aluminum backing strips are helpful to stiffen-up the pocket against the mat. I subsequently removed the passenger footwell box - it's useless - and only keep reg and insturance papers in the driver's side, use the passenger for cables, etc. Works well.

I used a "footwell cargo net" (450mm x 220mm) with wire frame on 3 sides, off eBay for about £20 for a pair now. Cable ties to the chassis tube at the rear end and some 36mm spring clips on threaded bar at the front, clipped onto the chassis rails with foam padding cable tied to stop the contents sliding out of the front on braking. I only have it fitted on the passenger side. It all seems to work and has been fitted for several years, very useful storage.

Thanks for the help on this. I decided to make up a wooden frame from some 16mm ply that I had lying around.


I routered around the rear edge so that it's a snug fit between the chassis tubes.

I used a Silverline 300x300 cargo net with the metal hooks removed. It's all held in place with tie-wraps and the resulting storage area is surprisingly generous at around 24cm high by 45cm long and 5cm deep. Access is via the top edge where the net isn't attached to the frame.

Great for waterproofs, fire stick, etc, etc I reckon.

Andy, this is a really useful tip. Thanks for posting. I may have to try this as well. I currently have my Element 50 fire extinguisher mounted down there, but having the plywood would give me another place to mount that as well.

How easy is it to access the Firestick in a "desperate" situation? Great idea for waterproofs storage, etc.
