I got mine from Ebay a while ago for 90€, but you need to be careful there because there are several cheap copies out there. They make an incredible difference at night - which is a safety aspect for me. Additionally, they draw just half of the current. But due to the price - I would only change the headlights if you often drive in the dark. What I do recommend is changing all other light bulbs to LED. I got mine from ClassicCarLEDsLast year I had a fatal rear axle fault - and the hazard lights were hardly visible on a sunny day. With the LEDs and the correct flasher module, they can be seen even in bright sunshine. And when you step on the brakes at night - a look in the rear mirror makes you think you just left the red-light district.

This might be good for you Morganeers in Germany, but it is not self-evident that replacement H4 LEDs are legal in other European countries - so beware and check out your local legislation. As an example, in Norway you cannot legally put a H4 LED bulb in a headlamp that originally is intended for halogen. I think the same goes for UK, so it should have nothing to do with RHD vs.LHD, only the properties of the lamp/reflector and the bulb.It might be changed and legal one day, but this is how it is at the moment. H4 LED is made by many manufacurers, so that is nothing new, although German approval of the Osrams is obviously a novelty. Very good for you, but if you live outside Germany, check first. I agree in as much that I fail to understand what appears to be a retro fit LED light source can receive approval in it's own right, without headlamp optics customised to light source to give a focused, sharp dip beam cutoff  Can confirm that in the UK such retro fit lamps are not approved for post 1980 cars, and for good reason.

The approval is only given in conjunction with headlights where the optics have been tested with the LED. This what the TÜV verifies and approves.
This is the reason why the exact E-number is mentioned in the document and the correct headlight required on the car.
The alternative to the LEDs is the Osram Nightbreaker 200 (H4 and H7 available). Much cheaper, no approval required and a vast improvement.
It also does not annoy oncoming traffic as much as the LED - but then again: almost all the of new cars have LED lights....

If the approved headlamp reflector/body was dedicated to an LED light source, i.e. it was sold as an LED headlamp package with appropriate E marking I can understand it's approval. However, and please correct if I'm wrong Tim, the headlamp body in this case was designed and originally approved for a lower light output halogen bulb I further fail to understand why such retro LED conversions are so popular given their price. There are now a variety of full LED approved headlamp packages available, such as those fitted to CX series, Land Rovers etc. with most including a DRL or bright position light option, for similar or lesser price!

Ah, now I get your point. Yes, some older headlight units will never work with the LED bulbs. Some like the Wipac do. And yes, you are right. For the price of the LED bulbs you might as well get the complete package. There is a thread on this topic here in the forum as well as you know over hereI wanted to keep the "classic look" and still have a very good visibility. Does that make sense? Most likely not a whole lot. Rational thinking isn't helpful when restoring a Morgan.  For the money I have burnt on my 1984 Morgan 4/4 fourseater eater - I could have nearly bought a new Morgan Super 3... Might have been the better choice
