My 2011 Plus 4 Easi-up hood (original factory standard "PVC") is getting a bit tatty, I'm loathe to spend the money as it's "emergency equipment" since the car isn't used in the winter months. Its only erected if we're caught out in the rain and when the car is garaged as recommended. What are the opinions on best material and best company for the job? How long do they need the car for. Thanks for advice / experiences in advance.

It doesn't say much for the factory hood if it is tatty after 11 years with little use. I'll admit my 1980 hood is quite tatty but that's only because the mice got at it a few years ago, up until then it was still in very good condition.

My 1997 hood - ever-flex - is perfectly usable but has had two small repairs. I use all year round.
Cheers

My 1964 4/4 hood is in good condition and the 94 +8 hood is in very good condition, I suppose the condition depends on how you maintain and store them.

Allon White are quoting £980 for an Everflex Easy-Up hood, and £1275 for Mohair. I've just booked to get my tonneau cover zip done, and their first available time slot is mid October.
Not sure how long it would take though - Keith (Image) is booked in there to get a hood made, so may have a better idea of how long.
Steve Summers is highly recommended but unsure of his prices. Arwyn has had some work done recently so will have a better idea of time/price.
I think the standard thoughts are that Mohair is better than Everflex.

Longevity may also depend on how often you forget to undo the Tenax fasteners prior to lowering the hood ! Everflex better for bird dropping removal, but stiffer in cold weather.

I had a similar decision to make a few years ago. Though I admire the look of a mohair hood, I chose Everflex. My reasons were. 1. More compact when folded. 2. Can be folded when damp. (Though not recommended). 3. Far more resilient to seagull poo. (I live by the sea). 4. Easier to maintain. Mine was replaced at the factory, in a day. (Not sure if they still offer this service). The factory also recommended that I keep the hood erected, when the car is not in use. Bud 4/4 - Stanley
