I think you may have misinterpreted ‘pointless’ from my earlier comment. In comparison to other 4 wheeled vehicles, the Morgan distinctly lacks utility. What it has is character that renders a drive joyful. I suppose if carefully modified, not bad handling, vintage sports cars, could be considered useful I rescind my comment.

To be clear I’m not deriding Morgan’s. I love mine and it brings me much joy. This is where I think the Morgan excels, and I’d happily concede happiness as the point, but if we do that than I don’t think we can dismiss the CXT, as it would serve the same function, namely making their owner happy.

Prior to emogis forums were plagued and even destroyed by some degree of misunderstanding, even since the smiley faces misunderstanding exists given the misinterpretation of where to place punctuation..

As for the enjoyment associated with ones Morgan, can we establish a possible datum as being "emotional involvement" in terms of the basis of the multitude of ways in which Morganeers might enjoy their Morgans, many of which these machines may not have been ideally suited to, or designed for in the first place..?

It seems many a sports car old or new has been forced to perform all sorts of tasks in their lifetime such as carrying a Christmas tree home, taking rubbish to the skip, or the taking on the Paris to Peking on marathon..!!!

When I bought my old Morgan it was to roar around the local countryside, t`was my good lady who wished to head South To France and beyond in it.... As a reasonably competent wielder of spanners and having the benefit of circa five years on the interweb learning of Morgan foibles, to say I was concerned at her plans would have been an understatement. However just as many before me and since, we enjoyed a few adventures while getting lost in the warmth of Southern European sun, along with occasional runs in the rain and snow much nearer to home..The more memories we created, seemed to enhance the emotional involvement...What`s more to want..?

Being a CARsonova and in trying to maintain an "A" political stance, I ever like to scan across the more usual tribal divides, and having time on my hands I tend to spent too much of it in this armchair while wandering the web, and thinking to share that which seems to have potential to be of interest to some..?

The Porsche thing...? For me the Porsche thing was all about their approach to engineering adopted by Mr Porsche and his team... I do not know who first typed of the difference between Ferrari and Porsche as in the case of Ferrari the priority being "Form over function," While for Dr Porsche the opposite seemed to be true, perhaps more so when one considers the design of the Beetle as a starting point. Having cut my teeth on all sorts of Brit engineering, I liked the way Porsche seemed to operate a programme of continuous engineering improvement alongside their race proven success in all areas of sport and adventure, all during the air cooled years, once ownership changed and water cooling was the only option available, I became less than impressed for a period of time. Just getting older and more resistant to change perhaps... Just another sad old sausage having lived a life with slightly less access to dream machines, though more than content that I am in no way envious of Nick, and pleased that he is happy to share a bit of that which he has enjoyed with like-minded enthusiasts..(-:

DWiL23, seem`s to me that a degree of relativity may be best applied... My attraction to vintage cars and which lead me to become a Morgan owner, appeared in the form of a pre war Bentley that I followed down the road at the side of Loch Tay at speed, watching it`s pilot being very involved in the process of maintaining it`s approximate direction over the undulations and round the bends... That did it for me. Having owned a 60`s Lotus Elan with a Spyder space frame Chassis and suspension set up, a wonderful Ford twin cam Engine and disc brakes on every corner, I well knew what it took to create a fast great handling sports car... been there done that but what I wanted right at that moment in time was something akin to the old Bentley I was following...and at a price I might be ale to afford, ideally without the likely high cost of maintenance and parts associated with a vintage Bentley.

Yeah rarity has a degree of appeal, and there is enough of that to be found owning and driving one`s Morgan, not only rarity but heritage and craftsmanship and all else that can induce a degree of emotional involvement..?

You could always save yourself 60k and get a toy with style, elegance and a soundtrack to die for.. Aero with side pipes

Luddite, I couldn’t agree more. Nick Mason clearly loves his cars and it has been a long time love affair that has turned out to probably be more lucrative than being a mainstay member of one of the biggest rock bands on the planet - ever! In his case case he can not only afford to buy the car but also to actually risk driving and racing it. Good for him. Everyone else has an option to find their own version of that dream. Some want bling, some want driving experience or raw speed, but at a relative price point that fits and aligns to what makes them happy. Nothing wrong with that.

Notice the London Morgan CXT is now up for £184k at dealer in Oakham. They must of wanted to cash out and sold it though the trade or the vendor is trying it for less at another dealer..
