Not ashamed to say I had a lump in my throat when I heard the news, I am honoured and proud to have served Her Majesty, Her Country and Her Commonwealth. My proudest moment was when in 42 Commando RM we paraded our colours and Battle Honours in front of Her Majesty on Her Silver Jubilee culminating with a private dinner in our Mess, she stayed at the dinner with Prince Philip until after midnight dancing and having fun. A wonderful strong woman with an immense presence and sense of humor. God Save The King. One especially for you Bruce , as you know the Royals have many connections down here at BRNC (as do you) and much affection so losing this devoted couple within the space of two years is a big one.

I agree with you CooperMan, Queen Elizabeth was very special.
Going forward, as an outsider I personally believe Charles is going to be an outstanding king.

Charles, Prince of Wales, wasn't my favourite but since marrying Camilla he grew in my estimation.
King Charles III may be the same biological indvidual but already he is changing and evolving and with Queen Camilla I feel he will make a good King. Very different to Queen Elizabeth, but good.

Charles will be a great King. I've been impressed by his demeanour the past week. He will take a different approach to Queen Elizabeth, but he's a thoughtful, intelligent and by all accounts a very decent man. He's not scared to emote, which was quite alien to the Queen's generation. But people want a King they can relate to as a human being.
