More troubles. Took the car to Cars and Coffee today and when some bikers wanted to hear what it sounded like it wouldn't start. Just clicks. New battery put in when the drive train work was done a month ago. Luckily my motorcycle repair shop was next door. One the bikers had a little charger and jumped the car so I could get it over there. My repair guy checked the charging circuit and it's only putting out 12 volts. It should be 20. He's checking with the unit manufactures to see what they have to say but it might mean pulling the engine ! I just had that done to put in the Bleazey unit. The labor was $ 4,000. The car has been a money pit with the Bleazey unit replacement and the cam case upgrade.

The regulator/rectifier which supplies the charge current has likely failed Dutch. Although prone to failure its easily accessed with a Harley unit recommended as replacement.
If you measured 12 volts with engine ruining that equates to a near flat battery with absolutely no charging taking place. When working properly the regulator should hold the battery voltage around 14.4 volts, with engine running of course.
I would stay well clear from any "repair guy" that told you it should be 20 volts!

That sucks. If you don't mind sharing, how long have you had the car and how much have you sunk into it so far? It doesn't seem like a great idea to own one of these cars out of warranty. My 930 is nearly 35 years old. Looks brand new, runs like a top. Costs me almost nothing to run and Porsche is responsive with parts and improvements. I get that it's Apples to Oranges, but it seems people keep making excuses for Morgan like they have battered wife syndrome. Some of this stuff is just absurd for a modern car. You could reasonably expect better quality out of a good kit car. I myself was absolutely ready to buy a Plus Four, but that's out the window for now. Maybe Brits are a bit more tolerant and have a certain reverence for the brand, but no way Morgan will be able to expand its footprint in the US with such comically poor quality control and service.

All in USD The Bleazey parts were $ 3,600 The labor to install them was $ 4,500 but that included a new battery, charging circuit and Harley rectifier. The cam case upgrade was $ 850 and the labor was $ 150. I've put 2 sets of tires on as the alignment is out and hasn't been fixed yet. $ 200 a set. Replaced the rear sprocket $ 500 for it and I think the labor was around $ 250. Not including an oil change I've got almost $ 9,400 in it since I bought it 2 years ago.
And I might have to have the motor pulled again to fix the stator. In the meantime we'll keep the battery on a charger and carry a jump start pack to able to start it when the battery dies.
Not a cheap toy. I've also got a 1980 + 8 that I bought 2 months ago. So far I've changed the fuel filter for $ 6. It's got 21,000 miles on it.

I believe the 20 volts is AC coming from the stator before being converted to DC by the rectifier. Which by the way is a brand new Harley unit.

Over the last 9 years I have spent more on my 3 wheeler (servicing, upgrades & repairs), than my friend has spent on his Aston DB9 Vantage. He uses his more than I use mine.
