I also changed my locked ECU for an unlocked S&S G56 supplied one and have 569 cams, roller rockers and G56 exhaust (one of the first they produced). All was good until the unlocked ECU failed totally one day. I finally got a part payment from S&S for a replacement but this is the later type (with the different port) and it came with a KH basic Stage 2 map, G56 couldn't supply S&S ECU's then.

As there appears to be no one with any Protune 2 experience and a M3W compatible dyno in the UK now I am stuck with that. Hopefully Red Leaders map will be a bit better??? The early S&S ECU maps are not compatible with the later ECU's by the way. If you have the later ECU possibly you could email me a copy of your map Wilson?

I cannot extract the map from my ECU as I have no Windows computer but only Mac. After crashing the hard drive on a Mac some years ago by installing Windows emulator software, I will not touch that software with a barge pole now. G56 pre-installed my map before they sent me the new ECU and I have not touched it since, on the basis of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The only problem I have had since was when a Lambda sensor failed, which led to violent misfiring. When it was at M3W services earlier this year apparently it would not idle and the position of the throttle position potentiometer had to be adjusted. This was odd as it had idled perfectly before the engine was removed to fit the Bleasy Centa and new clutch. I gave my original ECU away to another forum member whose ECU had failed. In retrospect I should have probably asked some money for it.

Had a nasty rattle develop today - on the overrun. Seemed like a loose bolt but everything seemed good around the engine. Turned out to be a classic - the driverside rearmost exhaust shield bolt was loose (despite me thinking I had checked it!). On the plus side met 2 nice TM members today doing errands in Oxon (1 a M3W owner, the other bearing a M3W exhaust scar from a test drive!).

Nothing takes longer to heal than an exhaust scar. I have matching ones on each leg. One from the red hot external pipes on a Frazer Nash-Bristol LMR Mk.1 F2 car, when my foot slipped on the oily alloy floor when getting out of this car, which in F2 form has the doors welded shut. The second was on my M3W on the first run of the year, when collecting it from its winter storage in Cogolin, near St Tropez. I had not used my French wallet since the previous autumn, and when I needed my French debit card to fill up with fresh 98 fuel, the card had stuck in the wallet. When I finally got it out, it flew out of my fingers and landed just inside a front tyre. Without thinking I bent down to pick it up and pressed my bare leg (south of France shorts weather) against the red hot catalyst. Result, a full thickness burn about 4cm in diameter. Luckily I had a first aid kit in the car from doing a rally the previous autumn, so after cooling the burn with bottled water, I was able to put a sterile burn dressing on it. Given my age then of 74 and the very strong meds I take to control psoriatic arthritis, which slow the process, the burn took two and a half months to heal.

ihad problems with the emulator twenty years ago and i too gave up on it. When i bought the M3W in 2019 i also bought a windows laptop exclusively for reading ProTune and nothing else. I do not even hook it up to the internet for updates since i do not use the internet on it. if my ecu was unlocked i would happily share the files but it is a Stage 2 from MMC

2019 M3W Sold and is now in Las Vegas enjoying the showgirls :-)

From memory, I think the map in my ECU is the G56 Stage 2. G56 did say to make sure I only used 98 or higher octane fuel, as the spark was quite advanced. They were very helpful and I would guess they might supply a copy of the map for a modest fee. I fitted all the mods at the same time, so I cannot say which of the intake, exhaust or ECU cured the pinking completely but together they did.

Thanks Chris, that should work. Mine is currently Oct 2020, so maybe yours will be better? Certainly worth a try.

I share your ugly experience. I was leaning over the car to take a picture. I won’t make that mistake again!

Could be coming from the rollover valve
