I checked the code on my oil filter and ordered the same from ebay.
What came was close but not exact.

The last 2 digit of the code I ordered were AA, but what arrived was AB. This filter is quite a bit shorter in height. Will this cause a difference, or am I best sending it back for the one I ordered?

I had the reverse problem on the 3.7l. FoMoCo don't make the original and have supseded it with a longer unit.
If it is shorter then there is less filtration area logically. I would check with the supplier.

DaveW has as always documented the filter on an S1 in his how to articles
Oil filter

Earlier in the article he states "July 2011 update on oil filter.
The equivalent Jaguar filter is quoted as XR8E6714AB
On the box it now says XR823395 - but filter stiil shows first number."
Most of that number matches your filter, but again I would check.

Yes, I did read that, but as with the complete randomness of morgans, I opted to go for a like for like as the reference was different. However, looking at the the end half of the jaguar code, it's the same as the one that arrived. After a bit of research, it would appear that the filter I've got is a replacement for the one I ordered.
