Yes JL's video makes me want another but I owned mine from October 1982 to March 1987 and I only did 5,000km (3,000Miles).That was because I spent ages waiting for parts from Japan every time it broke down and I needed some part not in stock. I expect all up if i add up the weeks it was working I got to drive it less than a year.

Around 1990 I got a letter from Honda in Japan. They had tracked me and lots of other S600/S800 owners sending a letter saying they were demolishing the factory and all the tooling to make way for a new model Honda Accord, they were going to wait 3 months to see what orders got sent in and do a batch run of parts. After that nothing would be available though your Honda dealer. I threw the letter out as I was moving house and didn't own the car any more but I should have kept it as an example of good customer service. But even before then a lot of parts were no longer available.

Considering how hard it was to get parts back in the 1980's when the factory existed I think forget about owning one again, it would be too frustrating. I lost my starter motor (fell off while driving out of a carpark) and couldn't get another one, in the 3 years they made the S600 they had three different starters and none were compatible with the others. I push started the car for about 3 months. I read an interview with the head of Honda design, he would come in at night and change designs and they would get implemented with no records of when, it was very hard to work out what parts you needed when things changed.

The Chain drive was very cool once you got used to it, I learnt to do very smooth gar changes with it but anyone else seemed to bunny hop it all over the place. It was discontinued with the S800 but I heard in typical car manufacturers style they made a few hundred S800's with the chains and S600 chassis to use them up.

When it worked it was fantastic and I have some great memories, but when it didn't it was frustrating. I remember it was working well but I had the seats out to replace the carpet, a friend dropped over wanting to go for a ride so we threw some bean bags in, sat on them and drove off into the night.

Both about 85,000 pounds which is about $150,000AUD, add shipping, duty, GST, Luxury Car Tax and it is $250,000 for a car that you probably can't register. If the dealer had decided to bring them in and get them registerable he would need to sell for over $300K and sell a lot to make it worth while. Both the red and green are beautiful but will never have one unless I win lotto and my wife decides we want to live in the UK which are both very unlikely with grand children in Australia.

2016 M3W Special Addition.....

Well this auction should set a 2016 M3W BaT record
There have only been two presented on this site.
A 500mile vehicle sold for US$ 47,000.00 in March 2020
The next best sale since the one above was a 2008 Liberty Ace 3 that sold for US$44,250.00 in February 2022
A 650-mile vehicle in August 2017 was bid to US$38,000 but did not meet the reserve
The highest price for any M3W on BaT is US$ 47,250.00 but that came with a special custom-made trailer
