As I work in a Catholic School, I'd have to say probably the Pope, but that's it.

Maybe in different ways and to different audiences.

Ghandi
MLK
JFK
Diana

For me in my frame of reference it has left a gap.

Not at all Bob .... the passing of the others mentioned above had a huge impact, but largely in one country .... Elvis was probably the one who's loss was acknowledged across a great part of the Western world .... still not anywhere near as wide reaching or widespread as the Queen I would say.

Agreed, it's all about perspective.

I meant, “Who else on earth could ever command such reverence?” as a rhetorical question to emphasize the reaction of the public to Queen Elizabeth’s passing with a five mile long queue. Perhaps a poor way to do it. I didn’t expect an answer.

BobtheTrain, I didn’t believe you meant any disrespect.

Certainly there are other people past and present who are revered by many.

What is remarkable is Queen Elizabeth dealt with 14 British Prime Minister’s, 12 US Presidents, and four Popes. People came and went but she was a steadfast fixture in 70 years of our history.

Not to make light of a serious situation, but I saw a cartoon recently that said " I don't see the big deal - my kid's only six, and they've had four"
