Its an interesting point, and since I use the car year round one that I hope to address, although as pointed out, on a 2003 car that reg hopefully doesn't apply. As you might imagine, the heater element gave up the ghost years ago, and the screen edge has permanent misting between the laminate. but has always passed MOT. The main reason for changibg it is the external micro pitting that causes problems in sunshine and oncoming headlights. I am going to try heated elements in the screen surround channel at the bottom, or that failing, then a jury rig for winter from the two small outlets on the bottom of the heater control box to pipe warm air along the bottom of the screen. I always carry a shammy!

Being ..err..mature..I remember a time when a 12 volt element was mounted in a circa 10" long Bakelite housing which had a rubber sucker on each end and a flex to plug it in to an accessory socket, which caused me o think that chances are that there may still be something similar out there..?

TBM a 1972 car should surely have demist slots under the windscreen...have tou had a new leather roll? Maybe the slots are underneath it? Or have you got the old recirculation heater? Nick

Yep, had the old Smiths Fugstirrer. Got a far better one now, but no vents. I have one of these Demistersbut haven't wired it in yet. Not overly impressed with the suckers, so am going to make up a couple of brackets to fit on the aeroscreen mounts (i've removed the screens for winter)

Oh yes, sorry, I'd forgotten that they still used that in the seventies. If you've fitted something better couldn't you feed a thin tube from whatever fan you have got along the base of the windscreen, something just a little bigger than windscreen washer tubing, and have lots of little holes in the tube keeping a flow on the screen? Might be possible? Nick
