How do all

Poor old Archie has been to the vet yesterday as he's been hobbling around :-(
Had an Xray and then an injection for nearly a grand ( shocking ) then Monthly injections @112 quid a pop !! )
Hes got arthritis in his knee frown

But I wonder if the TM collective have had similar issues with their dogs and tried supplements ? I'm a bit sceptical but nothing ventured and all that .

Any experiences ?

Had lots of experience with horses and arthritis. No idea if any translates to dogs though.

With one of our horses, the regular injections stopped working after a while. We fed him supplements and let him have the day off when he was on a bad day. All told, we kept him in light work for 11 years after diagnosis. The critical thing is regular exercise when he is up to it.

We used to use Cortaflex on our horses. IIRC, they have one for dogs. It is expensive, so a standard Glucosamine for dogs could be a better bet.
Take a look here: https://www.equine-america.co.uk/collections/cortaflex-for-dogs - check the ingredients and you should find a much cheaper alternative. We have changed over to a standard Glucosamine supplement which seems to do the same job on our horses and is a fraction of the cost.

We also use cider vinegar as a feed supplement - it has the advantage of being cheap if it doesn't work. A quick search found lots of references to it being used on dogs.

The biggest problem you could have is that you will end up giving Archie several supplements - but you won't know which one is working. You will therefore be unable to stop feeding any of them "just in case".

As with all things feed supplement - check for a solid reference re dosage and introduce into Archie's feed gradually. That way you will have less chance of him turning his nose up. And, in the extremely unlikely event of any adverse reaction, you will have only fed a small dose.

In the horse world, there are some natural pain killers which help too - I don't know enough about dogs to recommend one.

Have a look at https://yumove.co.uk/

Our spaniel seemed to improve when using it.

+1 for Yumove. Our pooch changed completely after taking Yumove. She's 14 now and springs around like a puppy!

Number 2 daughter is a Veterinary Physio so I asked her what she would recommend

She said try Synoquin or similar as a supplement but best treatment would be physio and hydrotherapy if this is available close bye

Hope he is well insured!!

Cheers folks. I had heard of Yumove, I think I will gave that a whirl. Id rather not have him on drugs for the rest of his life.
Funnily enough our vet never mentioned supplements. I suppose its in their interest to have use go there and shell out once a month rather than find alternatives !

It’s Mrs Tony H here! I would definitely recommend canine cortaflex. It’s fantastic, natural and has helped so many dogs that I know, even preventing my brothers collie from having an operation on his knee! I have used it too (human cortaflex!!!) for back problems I had for years and it completely sorted it out for me! As you can tell, I’m a fan!!

My first Jack Russell (Harry the Bastard) had a touch of arthritis in his later years and a daily feed of cod liver oil worked well for him. He was still ratting at 14.

Alas, it didn't improve his temperament.
