The overseer button allow the use of the hand brake when running .
I suppose the brake is strong enough to do that.

This was the cheapest new car on the market in Norway at the time, and the parking brake worked as it should. It even had its own calipers and brake pads to make it an independent emergency brake.

Richard, I well remember the LR propshaft drum.. (-: Jaguar and Lotus handbrakes operating on rear discs were ever a sourse of frustration as they aged.

My lovely old volvo 1800es in the seventies had discs all round and a seperate drum brake system for the handbrake. Worked well.

So long as you only use it as a parking brake. smile
Apply while moving and you will have a vehicle jumping about and often breaking a half shaft.

On the Citroën the inboard discs, or drums on my first 2CV, also kept the unsprung weight on the front down. This at the cost of all the braking force passing through driveshafts though.

The transmission brake on early Discoveries worked well for parking as it works on all four wheels although if you put the transfer box in neutral, you have no handbrake at all.
You could only ever use it once as an emergency brake when moving as it tended to break the prop shaft UJs. You then had a huge problem as you had no handbrake & leaving it in gear had no effect.
