My M3W chassis has cracked around the right lower front wishbone mount, not unusual for a 2013 car but mine has a post 2014 specification chassis fitted. The post 2014 chassis was supposed to be the end of the chassis cracking problems of the earlier M3W's and it had looked like that was the case with owners of post 2014 specification chassis cars being confident that their cars wouldn't suffer these problems.

My 2013 car had a chassis change with the latest post 2014 specification chassis being fitted after a minor accident bent the original chassis, that was seven years and 30,000 miles ago. A few days ago I found the right lower forward wishbone mount vertical tube cracked, in the same location as many pre 2014 specification chassis have cracked. This has been covered extensively on Talk Morgan with several threads detailing these cracks on earlier pre 2014 specification chassis. I contacted Morgan DSC and they were very keen to view the crack and quickly repaired it with the same repair scheme as used on the earlier cars, FOC, although I did have to get the car to Malvern and back. Excellent service from Mark Baldwin again.

It seems that my car is the first post 2014 chassis to crack like this that they know of. Mark said that a couple of other post 2014 chassis have had the same modification done at the request of their owners, although not cracked.

I would advise owners to closely check this and other known crack areas closely no matter what age their M3W is and to check them every couple of thousand miles or so. I had visually inspected the two known crack areas last Winter when I serviced my car, there were no cracks then but that was 5,000 miles ago. The roads here have been getting worse for many years and the county I live in has some of the worst maintained roads in the UK, this may have contributed to the crack but I cannot think of any particular occasion that may have caused it. It is easy to inspect the lower forward wishbone mount, a strong light and magnifying glass may help if there is any doubt. Any signs of cracking should be reported to Morgan.

Mine (Dec 2016) cracked at the bush mount and there was a lot of denial at MMC, but eventually it agreed to a chassis replacement. I am pleased that you spotted yours before the suspension collapsed - not much fun in the middle of Spain (mine went in France).

Very sound advice for ALL M3W owners.....

I was one of those that paid to have the brackets strengthened before they cracked. Cost about £1300.00 from memory, but better than the potential consequences of catastrophic failure. The new brackets are what the original ones should have been, the originals looked like they were tacked on ready to be welded properly. In my case after welding them and delivering the car back, I found they had forgotten to repaint them!

I'm still waiting for the response from the morgan dealer to whom I made a request at the end of May, my chassis has already been replaced in 2015 and re-welded in 6 different places.

Just checked my 2015 - cracked both sides the same. Looks like a common fault to have this mabny failures on this many cars. If VW had the same % failure. Will call the factory on Monday. What’s the fox and who’s doing it? Cheers

Hopefully it was this thread prompted you to check your post 2014 specification chassis for cracks? That was the idea as it seems unlikely that there will be any recall action on this, desirable as that would be.

I notice you mentioned there were no cracks on your 2015 chassis at 45,000 miles a little over a year ago MOG42, how many miles have you done since you found the cracks? This may help with defining a period between checks. I know that I checked my car 5,000 miles ago before noticing this crack. My feeling is every 2000 miles at the moment.

I suspect that for every M3W owner who sees a warning on Talk Morgan, there are ten who never look at it. There must be a lot of blissfully ignorant M3W owners out there.
