Would some of you who have seen recent 3W examples please have a look at the linked photo below, and let me know what you think of the rust shown, whether it's to be expected (i.e., normal), and what are your perceptions of overall build quality. The SuperDry example I inspected was surprisingly sub-par in other areas, as well, but I'm reluctant to judge or even make comments based solely on this one vehicle.

Thanks to everyone for your positive comments about the photos I posted.

Salt air doesn't help (assuming this did not arrive via air freight), but it doesn't look great does it?
Reminds me of my HD owning days, though at least that rusted where you couldn't see it easily...

Cheers,

The whole package (mechanical and asthetical)quality issue is now a major concern to me. I think that I will now need to do a very thorough inspection before I accept delivery (when it eventually gets produced). If it's not up to an acceptable standard for me, then I have the choice to withdraw and at least I have only lost the deposit.

Perhaps the Superdry car is one of the pre-production models? The ones I've seen at the factory...and commented on previously...showed patches of rust around the front suspension and frame areas on the welds, but the painted finish was not the same quality as the dealer ones I've seen since. I'm surprised at the flexible joint corrosion on the exhaust as I'd assumed that would be stainless or chrome plated stainless.

I'm at the factory tomorrow so I'll have a good look at the cars again.

I guess what really bothers me (and this is coming from someone who wont be able to buy one for quite some time), is that Morgan found it acceptable to send out such defective looking cars to a car show. If it were me and it was my company, there is no way in the world that I would go to a car show with a vehicle that was anything other than absolute perfection.

When you are trying to exciting a potential customer base about your vehicle, showing something with rust, etc. on it, is simply unacceptable. I would much sooner stay up all night detailing the car than try and pass something off that was rusty.

Much of the rest of the vehicle was absolute perfect looking, so why let such an obvious thing slide? I realize they were down to the wire with customs not releasing the vehicle for a while, but I still think they could have upped their game.

This is also a concern to me, still hoping it is under development. Having some interest in the automotive industry I for sure know that good (and cost effective) surface treatments exists.

The photos below is from a car (demonstrator) that has just hours on the road. Even the engine mounts has rusted. Please note: This car had some unplanned salt spray treatment during overseas transport (outdoor parking).

But I anyhow fear how this will look after some years of use. I will not accept this on my car...maybe after 20 years of use on sunny days. I will accept to do some fine tuning on my own but will not start my ownership of a brand new car with stripping, repainting and rust proofing. With so much of the front suspension/engine being visible (and front will attract a lot of attention) this surface must from my opinion keep a higher level. oldgit

I would agree with you 100%. If this is the standard of the final production cars finish, what will it be like after a few years normal use. I won't accept it either if this is how it will be.
The crappy cable ties on the steering rack gaiters don't look too profesional either, they havn't even trimmed the surplus end off neatly.

I also noticed the rust on Steves excellent photos, and put it down to it being a pre-production car, but looking at those pictures above, it is more than a little worrying. I cannot see a car lasting out even one winters light use without looking very scruffy indeed if that is how it looks after only a few weeks on the road, salt spray or not.

Does anyone know whether the chassis is painted or powder coated? I would think powder coating may be the best as it will form a skin over all the little welding holes, which paint may not get into.

I suppose that it would not be a bad idea to treat the front of the chassis from new with something like 'Waxoyl', but that should be down to the dealer or factory and at their expense in my opinion.

Steve, you mentioned some other areas on the Superdry car that were cause for concern, would you care to elaborate?

Sadly the BHM 3 wheeler I saw at the Jolly Tanners in November showed similar rust & wiring issues.

I suspect that if they don't lift their game, they may have a customer revolt on their hands.
