I am laying here in bed trying to figure out what the future holds for me driving wise having wrecked my right leg seven weeks ago. One of the thoughts I am having is wondering about the cost of converting my 2005 Plus 4 to an automatic, if indeed such an option is even available. Would it be cost effective or cheaper to go out and buy a factory made automatic car? Your thoughts are greatly anticipated and appreciated.
Of course my recovery may not require this but I will never have complete movement of my foot in the future.

Sorry to hear about your problem Topline,
There is a Hopmog member who converted his +8 from manual to auto, and he might be a useful source of information. However this was the "old school" type slush box , not one of the modern dual clutch types. He wrote an article in Miscellany a few years ago , that might be searchable (?) Sorry no idea on cost.
If you want a modern auto with all the bells and whistles (as fitted to most tin tops nowadays) then I think your only choice is to sell/trade your current car for one of the new MMC offering (Plus Four or Plus Six).
I suspect that installing an auto in your current car would be the cheaper option , but would it be the better one? I think you need to drive the new Plus Four auto and ask yourself if you like it , if yes I think you have an answer (albeit requiring extra funds)

Hi Topline, Hope you make a 100% recovery ASAP. As well as Vitesse there is also another car engineering firm in Kent who converted a Morgan +8 from manual to auto and given they are in Kent and the MOG615 mentioned a "Hopmog" member (Hopmog being the Kent region) I suspect it is this garage that did the conversion: https://ajbengineering.com
Cheers, Paul

Of course my recovery may not require this but I will never have complete movement of my foot in the future. Sorry to hear about this but I well know the feeling. I messed up my right leg following a motorcycle accident in 2006, when a car headlamp broke, entered my leathers and slit my leg from knee to ankle together with tendons, nerves, etc. A couple of ops followed over the next three days. When I got out of plaster, I had to wear a calliper boot for some weeks and when finally shedding that, found that my ankle only had about 1mm of movement. However, I was given a physio workout to follow every day for a couple of hours at my local hospital. It was so very painful to start with but after a month or so, I was virtually back to normal movement, though still a numb feeling down the leg to this day. Upshot is, that when I was ready for discharge, my physio examiner said that the damaged leg was now stronger than the undamaged one! We are all different, but there is hope. Good luck and keep your spirits up.

How is an automatic going to help you when it’s your right leg that is damaged?

Sir P I have found plenty of hand control conversions online but all for automatic vehicles, none for manual. That’s not to say they don’t exist, I just haven’t found them.

Good luck with your recovery.
Hawki on here had his Plus 4 converted to automatic and I think Krazy Horse of Bury St Edmunds arranged it. He now has a Plus Four auto.
