Cheers Rog, easy when you have a mate who is a machinist for TFL with all the gear, turns out BSW is used a lot in the locomotive world so the central bolt came out of the stores and cutting a BSW thread did not represent any challenges at all.

I tried the new setup with and without the spacer and decided the spinner looked a fraction too small and isolated on its own.

However, when I added the spacer it framed the brass spinner perfectly with a ring of aluminum that ties in with the ally Le Mans style fuel filler cap, it's also a good way to ensure I don't lose the spacer which I will still use with the T-Bar when I'm using the luggage rack.

I was especially pleased with the way the Morgan logo/text ends up in the correct horizontal plane once the spinner is tightened down firmly with my 3/8" drive spinner socket that I use with a 38mm 3/8" drive Sealey SX115 low profile oil filter socket and my 3/8" drive breaker bar, this setup works perfectly as my go -to wheel brace.

I've considered this, I think it would look cool as would brass plating the chrome Plus 4 badge thumbs

However, the next jobs I'm lining up for the lathe with 'Project Brass' are four bonnet catches...

And four knurled side screen knobs too...

[Linked Image]

This places four small and subtle brass elements/references down each side of the car...

I'm pleased to say my backdating objective of turning old man Monty into a sporty 'vintage club racer' is coming together nicely cloud9

If some of the fittings are genuine 'chrome on brass' as the ads often say, then easy to remove the chrome layer and re-polish the brass

I did look into this Jon, but I believe the bonnet catch knobs are polished stainless, I also looked at brass plating but it can be expensive.

In the end, and when you have a good machinist as a mate, it ends up making more sense to turn up new bonnet and side screen knobs from some brass bar.

After changing all 8 chrome/stainless knobs to polished solid brass, I'm considering adding a parallel section of brass pipe to delete this MMC exhaust tailpipe finisher abomination.

You'd only see this section of the pipe, and only if you're looking from the rear, or at a low line of sight.

My thinking is the subtle addition of a flash of polished brass low down on the the car could work well thinking

But it's not solid brass now is it nono

Why spend a fortune on some faked up finish when you can have the real thing for a tenth of the price winky

Brass wire wheels don't work S an example or exhaust parts.

I'm now swinging towards powder coating this section of the tailpipe in matt white to hark back to the exhaust finishes sometimes seen on 1960's competition cars.

[Linked Image]

It's only the tailpipe section so I don’t need a super high temp and expensive ceramic coating, your average high temp powder coat will tolerate up to 500c so should be fine that far from the manifold and cat.

If it ages to a slightly off-white effect, which I expect it will, it'll only add an authentic patina.

A friends father had a lovely Bristol engined AC Ace in the early 90's that had the white treatment on its exhaust manifold, it had yellowed off with heat to a lovely dusty cream and looked absolutely stunning!

We used to use Sperex VHT manifold spray in the 70's, it did of course make your old Mini go much faster back then innocent
