Is there also a weight issue related to the total load+car weight and driving licences ? By the time you add car+battery+load attached I would imagine it would exceed your normal drivers licence if the load was heavy? I thought I read that larger caravans plus large cars exceeded a normal licence in some cases?
I do also wonder about re-gen with a big load on it. It is going to confuse the re-gen system as the back pressure of the increased load when you lift off must peak the energy being recovered above normal levels? The computer must be programmed with a certain range of regen (light/heavy loaded car) but adding 1.2t would be interesting to understand.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Interesting point. As the system is capable of delivery maximum current and torque delivery for drive purposes, I would imagine it would be capable of doing the same in Regen since it's just the direction of current flow that's different. but what if one was descending a steep gradient with a load that threatened to push the car faster than it was able to accelerate? I suspect that just as in an ICE car, judicious application of the brakes would also be necessary to keep everything under proper control.

If your gonna tow you will need an expensive Ev and a small caravan, be prepared for an average 80 mile range and a stressful unhook every time you charge if you can find space near the hook up for your van. The owner i spoke to had a Jaguar crossover he had downsized his van but decided to keep his old Mitsubishi just for towing. Funny but the motorhome and caravan club seem to be in denial regarding the practicality of towing with an Ev..

Until the industry accepts hydrogen as the replacement for diesel towing anything substantial remains an EV fantasy.

Exactly, JCB will find the practical and affordable solution for sure long before the car manufacturers..
Towing a caravan with EV is akin to Icarus saying he likes flying close to the sun a pointless shortlived exercise.

I can't quite understand how the motoring press are glossing over this issue. Not to mention some manufacturers recommend you charge to 80% and never go under 20% your effective range would drop even more.

My concern with JCB is that in the global automotive market they're a niche player ... I see them doing all the grunt work then suffering a 'Betamax/VHS' attack where the big boys use their reach and commercial clout (not to mention backroom political power) to scoop the commercial rewards courtesy of coverage and number of fueling points.

Yes I agree I can see them selling the idea when they find a viable answer, lets hope they don't get steam rollered into anything having put the work in. From what they have released they certainly are exploring interesting avenues especially for us that would like an alternative fuel to keep our older ICE going for as long as possible.

Clearly we need a better solution than on-board batteries for HGV, Agricultural, and other heavy-duty uses and I'd expect this is where the impetus for hydrogen development will come from. But from a car manufacturer's perspective, I wonder just how attractive the technology is? There are something over 65 million private cars in the UK, but only around half a million touring caravans, so maybe they don't see the towing market as being that significant?
Hopefully JCB can take a technology lead in this area and then licence it for others to use.

''The NEXO fleet represents the first deployment of fully certified, ADR-approved Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) in Australia and the first use of hydrogen vehicles by a Government in Australia The arrival of NEXO on ACT roads is the first realisation of Hyundai’s and the ACT Government’s long-term commitment to developing a hydrogen economy in Australia A total of 20 zero-emission Hyundai NEXO hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles have been registered and are set to hit the road in March as part of the ACT government fleet.
The NEXO fleet represents the first deployment of fully certified, ADR-approved Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) in Australia, as well as the first use of hydrogen vehicles by a Government in Australia.''
The arrival of NEXO on ACT roads is a milestone in the march towards a new era of vehicle transport, further developing opportunities for a hydrogen economy in Australia.''NEXO has a range of 666km (WLTP), with a refueling time of three to five minutes, in an SUV that emits only water vapour from its exhaust and purifies the air as it drives.
With drive from a near-silent electric drivetrain, NEXO creates far less external noise than a conventional vehicle, which is an especially important benefit in urban environments.
NEXO features the latest autonomous driving capabilities and is extremely safe, as the first FCEV to score the ANCAP maximum five-star safety rating.''
The recharge time put EV's to shame!
