Tricky we really need to see a photo as some had folding screens & 9 stud hood screens

Just a note to say that fitting these seals may not be straight foreword. I did mine a few years ago. Prior to purchasing I did some measurements which lead the supplier to believe they would not fit. However I then went and took some pictures of the fitment on new cars. Basically the fit of the side screens were so awful they did not fit to the new cars either.
Anyway I bought some and did some fettling of the side screens, to get them parallel to the w/screen pillars and the right distance. I elected to stick the new ones over the old to get a better seal with my hard top fitted. They have proved to be really good, even keeping the side screens snug even at speeds on track 100mph + Adjusting the side screens is a “pita” in my case on one side had to elongate the screw holes where the metal mounts join the side screen. (Imho one of the new cars the alignment was so far out I doubt it would have been possible) see pic.

There are at least two side-screen frame shapes on long door trads, and the gap between the A pillar and side screen frame will vary with each car so don't expect a simple fit.

The gap on my 05 Roadster is really tight, and I fitted my own neoprene seals way back. I don't think the modern A post seals would fit without some serious fettling.

Some numbers for the record…..

Dave and IcePack makes good points. I was lucky, my seals fitted straight out of the bag. I whipped the old ones off, cleaned up with IPA, chopped the new to length with the bread knife and wacked them on, absolutely brilliant. Thought they were all like that, hadn’t realized there was so much variation across cars!

Looking back at my original seal pics I would estimate that I had gaps between pillar and frame of around 8 or 9mm (can’t actually measure the gaps now with the seals on). If they were much less than this I think I might have had issues with the screens opening and closing into the seals.



That translates to about 3mm of frame engagement into the new seals. They are also lubed up here with a light coat of silicone grease as per Bob’s recommendation.


But if the gaps are too far out then you are probably looking at removing the side screen attachment bars for some heavy sideways tweaking.

Rog, with the gap you have at the top of the frame, when putting the sidescreens on, why don't you have the rear of the sidescreen sitting slightly higher to reduce the gap at the top? I do this on mine to get a better fit and it doesn't cause me any issues.

Not sure what I would gain Leroy? I don’t think I would be able to lift the rear of the screens anyway as there are spotfaces on my attachment bars that act as positional locators for the securing knobs.

Rog the gap looks quite a large one between the edge of the sidescreen and the pillar compared to mine. I think I only have about 5mm. I use a friction fit between the edge of the side screen and the neoprene seal, to stop them rattling, but those seals would be a better option for me I was thinking if your fitted the sidescreens and slightly raised the rear, it would pivot on the front screw, drawing the top slightly forward and into the seal a bit more.

Has anyone got any photos of this type of screen pillar seal on a car with the roof up?

Obviously, you'd still manually pull the outer drip flap on the hood over the side screen on closing the door as normal, but with this new type of seal I'm trying to get my head around how it interacts with the inner hood flap

On Monty with his laughably branded ‘Easy Up’ roof system the side screen traps the inner flap against the original and rather basic foam rubber pillar seal, but with the new type of seal I speculate there could potentially be interference between the two that may impede smooth door closures and ultimately limit reliable first time door latching?

How are people getting on with this newer type pillar seal when their ‘Easy Up’ roof is in use?

I replaced my old seals with the new type last year. With the hood down and the sidescreens on, they fit neatly against and parallel to the A pillar. With the hood up, when closing the doors the sidescreens do still press onto the hood flaps, but they sit flat with just a gentle push.
