In my humble opinion all they needed to do to make the trad more acceptable for a different/wider clientele was to fit some uprated more modern suspension eg wishbone front suspension and sophisticate the rear eg as with the last of the Roadsters setup, They had already introduced air conditioning, power steering maybe an automatic option for wider appeal.

Didn’t Peter Mulberry version get developed. I have seen his roadster test bed car that had it.

AIUI the trad chassis is nowhere near stiff enough to support a modern suspension design.

I think it would be mad to re-introduce a Trad built on a steel ladder chassis. They get worse the more power you put through them and no other new car manufacturer uses them today to my knowledge?
An entry level 4/4 would be at least £50K on the road nowadays and would be a very poor relation to the CX Plus 4 at only 10 grand more IMO
I sometimes wonder how many posters have actually driven a CX car to make the comparison with their Trad?
The Morgan Trad was never a cheap car when compared to what else you could buy at the price.
I kept my 4/4 Sport for all the sentimental reasons above but the CX is a very good car for its price, despite what I have read on this thread IMO.

I agree. I've not driven a CX car simply because I have no possibility of ever being able to afford one, but I am pretty sure it would outperform my 4/4 in just about every meaningful way.

In its time the Trad has been a very cheap sportscar ... here's a list of new car prices in the mid '70s (left hand figure, with approx modern adjusted value in the right column) .... at £2300 the 4/4 slots in where the yellow dots are ... seeing the company it keeps at that price point as a proper handmade sports car it looks pretty good value to me 🙂

When looking to buy the Aero I had a go in a V6 and found it very uncomfortable and unpredictable under power, at speed and in bends on bumpy roads. I came from a long string of high performance hatchbacks and moderns cars and it frankly scared me a bit. I was not the target customer, fair enough.

Great engine, bags of character, but the rest of the experience was just not for me. At 6/10's it was fun. At lower speeds you had to drive it and so I can see why people enjoy that. I am impressed by those of you that manage a long distance tour in a Trad given the ride. I have never tried one with the SSL upgrades which seem to get such good reviews.

I thought the Aero based +8 was a great package.

It's a mindset Alistair. The whole point of a Trad is to enjoy that 30's experience which makes long distance touring such a buzz. We are so lucky to still be able to experience this! It doesn't appeal to everybody and I really do get that. But taking a Trad round the Scottish Highlands is the most amazing experience....because it's a Trad with all those foibles.

Some Trad owners are more inclined to just go to the pub on a Sunday but that's also fine.

If I wanted refinement or absolute performance in my toy car I'd get a Boxster, or Supra, or Z3, or xxxx, all of which are serious rivals to the CX cars.

I enjoy it. Not an issue for me. But I fitted cruise control & that really helps on Mways

All they have to do is stiffen it up in the appropriate areas. I'm surprised that the current chassis can take what must be more extreme shocks transmitted thru it when dealing with pot holes etc with the weight of some of the engines with the current setup as opposed to what shocks would have to be absorbed within a more sophisticated set up.
