Nice work as usual, Craig. I took the normal “Ewanist” approach and just sprayed the whole clump of rusty muck with satin black, works really well for at least a fortnight

Resurrection of this post. I noticed that my exhaust bobbins on my 2011 plus 4 are just showing signs of perish.
questions:
1. Can they be replaced without disconnecting exhaust pipes and silencer /manifold joints?
2. The L-shaped bracket that is bolted to the chassis: Are the bolts captive as the nuts are on the outside but the heads are not readily accessible.

I replaced the 4 bobbins on my 4/4 without disturbing anything else.

Thanks for replies from two 4/4 owners, but it only answered my question 1. Not sure if it is the same arrangement as the +4.
The issue as I see it is that the bottom fixing of the bobbins is on a L shaped bracket that is bolted to the chassis. The top fixing is on a plate that shares a fixing with the silencer u- clamp.It looks to me that the only way of doing it is to remove the L bracket, but are the bolts that hold it, captive, or are they likely to either slip inside the chassis rail or when re- tightening, go round and round.
That’s really all I need to know.

That’s really all I need to know. There’s enough float and flex in the exhaust system to just under the bobbin nuts and lift the system off of them and for extra ground clearance you can chop some of the thread off the lower stud which makes fitting them easier still.

The chassis fixings are captive Well yes and no. They are formed of two studs welded to a plate and fitted from the inside of chassis, through holes drilled just behind rear cross member. If side pipes are spec'd on the 3.7 Roadster at least, the holes are drilled forward of rear chassis member to accommodate the shorter silencers. Unfortunately once all the trim, seats and belt fixings are in it's too onerous a task to move them I found.
