Looking for recommendations for a hotel in Wiltshire (near Buscote etc) for a DonMog weekend in October 2023.

Google has thrown up the Stanton House Hotel.

Wondering if any TM members have comments / recommendations.

Prefer to avoid wedding venues if possible.

Noting you have only a weekend, is there still space in your itinerary to head a bit West to Stourhead (also NT) ? And across the county line to the amazing Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford. Round-off a circular detour with a visit to Tim Ayres at New Elms (Shaftesbury, Dorset).

Paul, I live in Wiltshire, so never stay in a hotel...
Other than this, very extravagant place...

Good plan - some of our members will do some if not all of those things.

Thanks Peter - that looks fabulous but as we are catering for a mixed group the price could be problematic.

The Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton is well worth a visit too. Hopmog did that and the Haynes Motor Museum back in 2019 on a 4 day visit to the area.

If you're looking for a stay near Swindon then I can highly recommend https://www.wildthymeandhoney.co.uk/ just east of Cirencester

It's another fancy pub like the Red Lion that Peter recommends (& I would too) - but a smidge easier on the pocket, with more rooms.
& dog friendly :-)

Closer to Swindon, proper olde-worlde Miss Marple atmosphere (when there are no weddings -- do check your dates to avoid disappointment). Great food and service, and a nice parking area https://peartreepurton.co.uk/

That looks good - thank you. Certainly worth a phone call although I expect they will have a wedding on our chosen weekend.

When I organised a TM two day visit in Somerset including Haynes and Yeovilton we managed to get a "Behind The Scenes Tour" through their (Haynes) servicing and rebuild workshops which was most interesting we thought. Some eye watering restorations going on to some beautiful cars, that trip took place during the workshop staffs lunch hour at around 1300 I recall.
This part has to be pre arranged but there was no additional cost at the time.

The carrier deck experience at Yeovilton has been totally revamped during the Covid closed time I was told by a friend so that should be a new experience again for the older hands.

I know i'm a bit late for this feed, but a good place to stay near the Fleet Air Arm Museum and Haynes (15 Miles) is the Beckford Arms, Fonthill. Post code SP3 6PX. Phone 01747 870 385. Also a place that has just opened up is the gate house leading to the Beckford Arms from the B3089. I don't know the number to that place but i believe it has a connection to the pub.

Thanks for the suggestion Dave. Sadly they only have 8 rooms - we need at least 10 and could need 15 rooms.

Mrs F has now booked the Stanton House Hotel based on reviews. Fingers crossed it is OK.
