As long as one doesn't use fuel contaminated with ethanol, not adding stabilizer would be ok. Any fuel with ethanol will attract water compared to ethanol free fuel.

always a debate (like which oil to use) is whether to leave the tanks so-so or filled up. My thought it filled up. The fuel does not expand nearly as much as the air in the tank. Leaving lots of air means a lot of expansion and then moisture coming in with contraction.

Ethanol is a rather strange creature. It is both lipophilic (attracted to oils) and hydrophilic (attracted to Water). Sort of ac/dc as they say. but it does like water better and then the two of them settle into bliss at the bottom of your tank.

The only time I had fuel go off was when the tank was low. I winter keeping the tank as full as practicable.

On my boat and in boating, the general rule of thumb is keep tanks full over winter so less air in the tank so less chance of condensation which adds water to the fuel mix. Guess same would apply to cars.

Aircraft are usually stored with the tanks full for the same reason.
