Perry ditto driving down to Sorrento. Really for us 300 miles per day is the break point

We did a few Southern European trips from Central Scotland the lengthiest of which was a circa 4k mile round trip down to Sorrento, driving the Amalfi around dawn on my birthday, in my mid 80`s +8.

Another ditto on the 300 miles MAX a day thinking. We took circa 3 weeks, driving on m/ways all the way down, then wandering home via as many back roads as we could to get wonderfully lost on the trip back home.... As ever the worst section was driving the length of England on the motorways.

As has been typed, it seems the Morgan is quite the best calling card, it is more likely to attract compliment and wonder as opposed to envy that a well known iconic sports car might.. I well remember melting in a traffic jam in Naples wishing the Mog was a soft top 911 with air con.... but that did not last long once back out on the open road with folk smiling and waving in appreciation.

My Mog was set up for touring, it`s fibreglass lockable case fixed to the rack with "P" clips, nuts and screws. Soft bags internally to be lifted overnight. Another worthy consideration might be the lockable floor locker for the passenger well, made by an after-market supplier, which can take a camera and other kit..?

That's a big trip!

I have driven to the Mediterranean a few times in a Morgan - in a V6 Roadster and my Aero +8.

The Roadster (with the 'traditional' chassis and suspension) was uncomfortable and as I suffer from a bad back, it wasn't ideal. This year I had a month in Provence in my +8 and it was perfectly comfortable.

I used these lockable straps for the luggage:

And stored nothing of any value in the car. I would add that I didn't let the car out of my sight whilst stopping for lunch en route as even with the lockable straps I felt the luggage was vulnerable.

There is much pleasure to be had once you're just pottering about in your various locations - roof down, sides off.... you won't see another Morgan!

Take a towel and have it in the car - as you know, they are very far from being waterproof. Also consider a motorway 'tag' for the paid sections, it makes a big difference.

I use Kanulocks also. They are great at what they do.

In 2019 22 Morgans participated in Morgans Over America covering 7250 miles in 6 weeks with 90% of the drive being on back roads (of varying quality). Our daily drives were around 200-250 miles with plenty of stops to visit places and take in the scenery. We also had plenty of two day stops in interesting places to catch up on personal admin, carry out maintenance and undertake touristy things, the pace was about right and everyone enjoyed the trip. I drove my 94 +8 with a friend as navigator we used a large BootBag (Waterproof) with soft bags inside strapped onto the luggage rack which enabled us to just pick up the bag and carry into the hotel room. The secret is forward planning of what you will need on a daily basis to be placed in accessible places in the car e.g. sit on a bath towel that can be used to put over the seats when parked to stop the burnt leg syndrome or wipe the water away in rain, what clothing could be required with altitude changes weather forecast, etc.. Only put the roof up twice for a short time on each occasion once for hail and the other for snow. It is amazing how much you can fit into a +8 my Royal Marine training when being deployed definitely came into play.

Yes, great accessory, the only problem for me is the 2.5m (shortest they do) leaves a lot of spare to try & tuck away

I use Kanulocks also. My first thought was to try to cut off the ends I do not need-

Because of their price now I now fold these ends and fix them with a velcro.

Thanks for all your replies. TM, as always, a mine of information. FYI Toulon Trapani ferry not operating so to save on long drive through Italy will use route Genoa - Palermo. Will risk +4 instead of SLK. Checking on Kanulocks. Thanks

Another vote for Kanulocks from me - I have used them for several years and they are easy to use and seem to provide a good deterrent

They come in differing lengths, colour coded. Unfortunately the length which would have suited me best were out of stock but suppliers sent longer for same price. Managed to cut one of the pair down with difficulty and using sharp metal cutters.

Hacksaw useless as the multiple fine hard steel stands won't stay still, making for good anti-theft properties.
