You are quite right Richard.....dont know where I'm coming from, should have said multi contact switch I'm down with some stupid lurgy and the drugs are doing my head in. However as i recall when I fixed mine back in 2019/20, the rotary switch had 6 connections and removing and resoldering the 3 wires from the one set of 3 contacts to the other set of 3 contacts rectified the problem.
There must be a field resistor in the fan motor controlled via the rotary switch to facilitate the speed variation. I recall thinking that the rotary switch fitted in my 2011 plus 4 didn't look upto the job. Does look like it was sourced from a vehicle electrical supplier.....at least not in this millennium. It is the standard Morgan offering by the way. Ah well back to bed.

Useful info about the switch connections From behind it looks like there are many more than three selections possible and just assumed there was a mechanical lockout but never investigated further.

Typically the two speed motor would have two field windings onto a common stator, one for each speed.
