Its been going on for decades, at all levels within the EU from political bodies to farming communities, from the wine and butter mountain days, to eg the movement of animals on farms with lands that straddle across borders, to the fiddling of business expenses and allowances and in this case outright bribes.

This is just another manifestation of the lack of control, accountability, governance and review of EU spending. Everyone is on the 'pigs back' and it's the tax payer and end consumer that foots the bill, the true scale of the misappropriation and misapplication and fraud will dwarf anything the UK has done with regard to PPE.

Absolutely, but we also need to address the pressure and role the opposition played in all this, aided and fuelled by the press trying to bring the government down for the lack of PPE being available for an unprecedented epidemic. When you create a perfect storm and an environment which creates a pressure to act, you also encourage the suspension of independent review and governance of such transactions, that is usually in place for such transactions during normal times. The unprecedented pressure to act swiftly creates the opportunity for misappropriation and fraud, not just with expedient business connections, but also fraudulent overseas suppliers of which there were many.

The real money will be made between the contractors and subcontractors and material suppliers. For example how much is it costing to use British made steel in the HS2 contracts. How do you balance maintaining a UK Iron and steel manufacturing presence with the extent of subsidy inevitably built into the HS2 contract to do so.

Guys, guy`s we humans by our vary nature seek advantage from our first breath, all be it just that some are born in more advantageous situations than others and some who may not be, by chance or favour might at some time find themselves in a position where they can gain advantage and will by their very nature take it and use that to seek more advantage...? As to the amount of advantage as individuals we might seek, seems likely to reflect whatever sense of values we have adopted during our journey through life..?

If you introduce processes that are at risk of illegal exploitation in an attempt to obtain fast action it doesn't mean that you should never attempt to detect and bring to account those responsible for those illegal actions.

There were loads of companies and suppliers that bent over backwards to help our country at a time of great need, It would be a egregious insult to those decent and law-abiding citizens If we were to simply let off all the corrupt criminals who stole our money on the basis that we were focused on other things at the times the crimes were being committed.

The statute of limitations on fraud in the UK is 6 years from when the fraud was discovered, not from when it was perpetrated so there's no reason why the CPS couldn't start putting together cases against the most egregious perpetrators.

Couldn't agree more they should be pursued to the full extent of the law. It's not just the issue of PPE but also the Covid payments that were fraudulently obtained.

Lack of accountability means it will happen again and again.

Chances of Boris getting a spanking, nil.
