This is looking like a very big can of worms opening up, it will be interesting to see how assiduous they are in pursuing it

If they do absolutely nothing, it will probably be more than our current incompetents are doing to recover all the PPE/Furlough/tax bungs they gave to their mates in recent years. I imagine the lost biliions are far in excess of the amount needed to give their workers a living wage..........

Our lot seem to be doing absolutely bugger all to bring Michell Mone et al to account - or to even have it reported on. From what I can see the EU bungs are chicken feed in comparison.

Why are you surprised. I stayed at a hotel near Strasbourg where when the EU parliament was sitting you couldn't get in . Why? Because the MEPs booked it at €65 per night & claimed €350 inc meals as their daily allowance. The train station next door went right into Strasbourg but instead they had chauffers & cars which also involved hotel rooms & daily allowances vs the € 5 return train fare.
That is their perception of reality so what is a few euros more. The EU accounts I understand have never been audited fully & published. QED

The EU accounts I understand have never been audited fully & published. QED Historically, yes that was the case that the level of transparency wasn't what you'd expect. That's changed. https://www.eca.europa.eu/en/Pages/DocItem.aspx?did=58670"26/10/2021 A word on the ‘2020 EU audit in brief’ The ‘2020 EU audit in brief’ provides an overview of our 2020 annual reports on the EU’s general budget and the European Development Fund, in which we present our statement of assurance as to the reliability of the accounts and the legality and regularity of the transactions underlying them. It also outlines our key findings regarding revenue and the main areas of spending under the EU budget and the European Development Fund, as well as findings relating to budgetary and financial management, and follow-up of our previous recommendations. The full texts of the reports may be found at eca.europa.eu." Can't disagree with your take on how politicians abuse expenses though :-)

It's like an award scheme.
If you become an MP your reward is a salary and bung-pot, people bung money in regardless and if you don't spend it...... If you get bumped up to EU level the pot gains more and deeper options.
I say this having an extended family member who went through it. She was deeply dismissive of it and described it (along with several other perks) as licenced bribery pretending to be an incentive. I do not intend this to slur all of the people involved but the fact that the public purse is being provided with a Brave New World option and no one seems to care is overdue for review.
Again, do they bring glory upon themselves or their profession?
I had 500,000 BA miles from SFO-LHR for three years and most of it was not in first or business. I could claim back exactly what I spent and no more. Then again maybe that was because I was honest.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Alistair....You should have seen the look of shock/horror on my face when I picked up on this EU bung topic... NOT... I seem to have adopted my Grandfathers thinking from many decades past, in that even if the money were all gathered in and then evenly redistributed amongst a population, in time the strong would take it from the weak and the fly would take it from the strong and it will back where it currently resides at this time..? I wonder might that equate to the "poor" then being dependant on that which is described as trickle down economics... Hmm..?

The thing that amused me most about this was can you imagine the explanation she came up with when they found half a million quid in her flat The full extent of this alleged bribery has yet to surface I imagine and could well eclipse the PPE alleged scandal closer to home. Neither are confidence inspiring that is for sure but hardly surprising behaviour from people in privileged positions but it will be interesting to see how they play out.

There are two choices here either you are part of this, take the cash, take the lifestyle or you have principals and say no... unfortunately you'll have a clear conscience and be much poorer for it.
We have seen this much closer to home, in our social circles and clubs and institutions, Been there seen it and it is ugly, upset these characters and they wont like it !
Welcome to the real world.
