Hopefully I am in the right section with this question.
I am considering installing a leather belt over the bonnet wings on my new CX.
I have been told that despite the fils on the underside of the belt, paint damage can occur over time.
Is it advisable to apply a foil in this area?

What are your experiences

Put a strip of paint protection film across the bonnet- I would suggest the film should be twice the width of the belt, this allows for belt movement whilst driving. 3M make this film as do other manufactures.

Mine is a plain leather strap with no fancy backing so I used paint protection film under it.

Not wanting to widen the thread so soon but ... I want to fit a wider strip due to the considerations mentioned above ... any tips for removing the old stuff before I start?

Try a hairdryer, and slowly pull it back over itself. So from the bottom edge pull vertically up.

Even with a polished alloy bonnet I have ppf fitted. My first Roadster had a painted bonnet & a bonnet strap which I removed. The edges of he louvres has lost paint but the rest was OK despite no ppf but this was after 9k miles only
