I always put a large plastic bag over the engine bay (under the bonnet) before washing to protect the electrics under there - don’t forget to remove it after! There’s a lot of water goes through the louvres when washing. Even so from time to time on start up after washing the auxy drive belt squeals briefly.

So much knowledgeable and valuable advice in such a short time - many thanks to all.

Once the rain stops here, I'll take a closer look at the fuse box in the daylight and hopefully actually locate the battery. Then I have someone coming over later with the necessary electrical gubbins to check whether the battery is dead or whether there's another problem. It's a 2012 model, so the battery may well have been original and well past it's sell-by date.

Thanks again for all the sage advice. I may be a mechanical novice, but the support network is excellent.

Don't forget that every time you start the car it takes approximately 20 mins to replace the charge you have used to start it.

If when you find the battery it's a 'Banner' brand then most likely the original & at 10 years old it's had it...buy a new one for peace of mind and reliability

+1 thumbs Don't worry about checking it if original, just replace.

Battery found (not in any of the places suggested, this is obviously a special build) and replaced. All seems hunky and dory.

Thanks again for sage advice.

Sounds like good news.

And like Clemens, I would love to know where they hid the battery.

As a matter of curiosity I still have the original battery at nearly 11 years old. I keep it on a battery minder charger that I actually ordered with the car when it is, or will be, in the garage for more than a week. Started today without any issues.
We just had to replace the battery in the shopping trolley (a VW Polo) which now 6 years old. Nowhere near as good as the original Banner in the Morgan.
