Can anyone explain why the "gender fluid and uncertain" members of society wish to be called "they"? "They" ia a plural pronoun, my understanding of English Grammar is that "it" would be correct when referring to an indvidual of non-binary gender, but I'm an old luddite and must be missing something. Someone recently pointed out on a computer forum to which I belong: categorising people as either "binary" or "non-binary" is a binary system. Anyone choosing to label themselves as non-binary is, therefore, binary.

I feel "they" should have be reserved for people suffering from Schizophrenia, seems much more logical.
We agree.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

According to wiki: This use of singular they had emerged by the 14th century about a century after the plural they. It has been commonly employed in everyday English ever since and has gained currency in official contexts. Singular they has been criticised since the mid-18th century by prescriptive commentators who consider it an error. I’ve always known “they” as singular as well as plural….. e.g. “I met someone the other day - they seemed quite friendly”.
