It's whatever brackets that were on the car when we got it last June. It has the SSL suspension, so would that make a difference? The shocks are at an angle to the kingpins, but it doesn't show as much in this photo...

No the SSL RS kit would not affect the shock mount. It's possible earlier brackets were of a differing design but only one version is listed by Mogparts in the UK.

It's difficult to see in your photo but if there are two bends in bracket (one up and slightly greater one down) then that would correct the difference in angles of kingpin and damper. Apologies for raising the issue but it just looked wrong having the visible bend upwards when it clearly should be fitted downwards to match damper angle.

Whilst in this area worth checking the static pre-load on lower rebound spring. The two locking collars are shown in the very highest position but are there to allow adjustment such that stub axle just touches spring without any extra play. This is the optimum setting and does need to be checked a few thousand miles after kit is fitted to correct for main spring settling. A pair of C spanners allow adjustment and are provided with SSL kit - hopefully you have them in your toolkit.

Good advice from Richard regarding setting of static ride height. Depending on the age of this car, (unknown, but worth adding to your postings in future), it may not be far out. SSL recommendation for 4/4 Sport and Kent engine models recommend a starting point. of zero exposed thread for the car on the low ground clearance setting or 20 mm if on the higher clearance. But as Richard says, individual adjustment is the way to go following SSL recommended method.

By the way, referring to the earlier posting, as most of the braking action comes from the front, personally, I would not fit “performance” linings to the rear, unless of course it is destined for race or track use. For road use, it is a waste of money and it could even make the braking slightly worse.

Leads soldered on, and bulbs packed with copper tape and wedged in the holes! All working as they should.

Annoyingly, there does seem to be a UK shortage of 4.7mm bullet crimp connectors, Can get my usual type for love nor money, and don't like the brass solder/crimp type....

Making use of the little thin tube that comes on a Twinspray Action Can, can I sprayed liberal quantities of AC-90 lubricant down the gaps around the leather covered steering cowl.

To make sure I properly drowned that damn mouse who's lived in there since Monty came into my life last summer I absolutely flooded the area with AC-90, and then vigarouisly worked the wheel from lock to lock a number of times.

The result????

The anoying squeek from the steering column is finally gone

Result - now you need to find all the other mice.
