Attended Bicester Scramble in my M3W this Sunday, and the Morgan Centre was open for looking around. Plus 4, Plus 6, Super3 and some (presumably rental) cars around, plus various Mogs scattered around the technical site (by Bicester Scamble organiser invite) and external car park. Lots to see like classic car restorers Fiennes and various specialist restorers, through to some new Lotuses (Lotii?), Polestars, and the McLaren e-buggy thing. Next one is in April.

Made me wonder though, if Morgan wants to compete for the wallets of high disposable income folk, they might want to try harder at the "club" mindset? Arrange for Morgans to park outside their sales centre at events like this? Invite new owners in to see newer cars, have a coffee? The coffee stand next to the Morgan shop had a discount for Porsche club members! I enjoy Morgan sponsored events like Run for the Hills and wonder if they need to put more effort into "interesting events for Morgan owners to drive to and enjoy"? Just a thought...

I had an invite through for April this morning, and was tempted as I've been a couple of times before, but then I saw the prices! Almost £40 for me and the Mrs.

I only usually stay for a couple of hours, so think I'll spend my money elsewhere......

Really enjoyed the Morgan Thrill on the Hill thing, so would definitely go to that agan.

I still like to get the Mag, and membership made available the opportunity to attend events over the years, and of my choosing that otherwise I would not have access to, and of course meet new like-minded folks.

I have no idea of the REAL benefits of being a member when looking for insurance though it seemed to be suggested that membership might provide preferential rates/treatment, as perhaps promoted by the club relative to possible discounts elsewhere for parts etc, though whether that still exists..?

I have attended track days in years past organised mostly by the Scottish Morgan agents of the time, I do much the same with the Porsche club of late, though these days only to grab a few pics. TBM, you mention your enjoyment of the Thrill of the Hill.. which may not have ben available but for the existence of the club structure and the unpaid stalwarts who give of their time and effort to maintain it all..?

Me.. ? I have to be a member of the MSCC to be accepted to be a member of JockMog.. But I like the idea of providing a little bit of financial support through my membership even though for a variety of reasons outside my control I am unlikely to be involved with the JockMog folks at events, and much less so with the MSCC..

As ever, each to their own and with TM available it seems there is even less need to be a club member as such might have been the advantage pre the www..?

Though if I continue typing too much here... I might be thrown off...

I have also been to some of the events held at MMC Experience Centre - and my folks go to the cafe a couple of times a month for a bite to eat and a mooch round the cars.

Not sure I'm too bothered about a discount coffee or such like - I think it's more a marketing ploy to secure exclusive use for a certain coffee hut rather than a ownership bonus. It always used to tickle me when I saw people queuing for their free coffee at Waitrose - you'd hardly be shopping there if you were short of a bob or two..........

TBM, I have known some folk who like to give off the appearance of living as such, but struggling to make ends meet, and some truly well off folk who still counted every penny... It takes all sorts..just as well we do not all think the same..... YET.!

I have toyed with the idea of becoming a member of the Morgan Sports Car Club. Looking at several previous issues, not sure it applies to those of us who live on the other side of the pond. Attending an event in England is great idea, but not realistic. Could use some advice as to if the club is useful to those of us in the states.

Can't help with how useful, but there are a number of MSCC affiliated clubs in the US - Regional Centres

Have been to Sunday Scramble many times, but the 3 hour drive each way puts me off the January one just in case the weather is less than bearable. I couldn’t do October either as it was the day after picking up my Plus Four (and a 6 hour drive home from Scotland). The cars on display in the technical area are typically organised by WeAreScramblers, mixed with those from the businesses on site. They tend to theme these displays, though I often find as much enjoyment wandering around what people have brought outside of the technical area. They also run Assembly days which are much quieter but that are even more themed.

All of my interactions with James who runs the Morgan setup there have been great; thoroughly enjoyed the driving academy there with David as the instructor. I’m led to believe they do intend to use it as a bit of a base for owners in the future, which would be a great idea in my opinion - even if it means I’ll always stock up on a few beers from Wriggly Monkey Brewery too.

Just booked in for the Classic Motor Hub 'Coffee and Classics' at the start of April. A snip at £10 per car.
