The day before yesterday when I came back with my tw I had an engine power problem with a glig glig noise 5 km from my house I managed to get home on 1 cylinder, I removed the rocker arm cover and found that a cup that retains the valve spring is pitted from the center, luck or not S&S sent me an email on 09/12/2022 to tell me that 132cub pistons were available ( https://www.sscycle.com//products/ forged-piston-sets-for-x-wedge-engines-standard-132-inch/ ) I myself already have new valves in stock. ![[Linked Image]](https://zupimages.net/up/23/02/jva6.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://zupimages.net/up/23/02/4i0o.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://zupimages.net/up/23/02/boho.jpg) the problem is that I contacted my S&S supplier with the email to order me the parts as well as a pair of 121cub cylinders which was available on the internet, for a while my supplier never got an answer, was a bit disappointing on their side. the x-wedge quality does not surprise me when I see camshafts damaged by the needle bearings at 5000km and that others are more than 50,000 km before being worn out there is a problem with heat treatment or precision of machining.

Am I right in thinking that you are running with 618 high lift cams at the moment on this engine? Hopefully this sort of failure is not common on a "standard" 121 cu in engine, or with 569 cams and standard valve springs? I have heard of valve springs breaking but not the retainers, that is new. It looks like you have damage to the rocker and inlet valve, are the piston and cylinder head OK?

Yes I have the 618 camshafts fitted with large valve cylinder heads purchased complete from S&S equipped with the springs for 6500rpm, this is the first time I have seen a valve spring retainer being destroyed, generally the valve stem keys escape with engine overspeed the springs break the rocker arm breaks the piston touches the valve, everything except the spring cup as a general rule, I think of a poor quality of metal or heat treatment. Overall my dissatisfaction is mainly the problem of communication with people or companies when we have a problem they become deaf dumb hard of hearing and blind, it reminds me of morgan with my chassis which was welded in six different places for repair.

Those rockers should be aligned with the valve stems. Something looks very wrong. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/01/13/294A2689-CBCA-44CF-8A8E-A32D09022932_1_105_c.jpeg) These are on the Large valve heads and with 569 cams.

Today I spoke with a V twin specialist for x-wedge parts, he told me that it was not just the end of x-wedge parts but the end of the S&S brand.

Based on article below, I have doubts that S&S is going bankrupt. Possibly they are focusing on other areas of the business though. Article
