Having a bit of memory fade was it 2015 they finished with the Galve chasis and switch to gdi from duratec, its surprising how some sellers know next to nothing about their cars.

I would say yes as my 2015 has the GDi engine and a galvanised chassis. There were painted chassis on the line when I visited the factory to see mine being built.

My Plus 4 was in build in July 2014 and was one of the first GDI cars. The chassis was galvanised and from memory, so probably wrong, the painted chassis came in from 2015.

Thanks guys I remember us having quite an exhausting chat about it on here must be seven years ago then. A mate of mine was interested in a 2014 plus4 so either a late Duratec or early gdi I shall give him a bell and let him know.

The final Classics parts book was dated 2014 onwards so likely that was a break point although maybe more for the Plus 4 as the Roadster 3.7 came out two years earlier.

My 2014 Roadster has a galvanized chassis.

Sometimes such changes came along with the small series. I seem to remember that the Plus 4 Supersport introduced the Mazda gearbox, and the ARP4 the frame with coating.

My 2016 has a painted chassis. There were a tiny number of galvanised chassis left in the spring of 2016. The extra cost was from memory, £1,500.

So there will be a few 2016 trads with the galvanised chassis.

The painted chassis needs regular inspection because the forward facing areas get impacted by grit, and like powder coating, once the surface is broken, rust can get hold and spread under the surface coating. The galvanised chassis get the same impacts but are much more resistant to corrosion spreading.

Looking back, maybe I should have forked out for a galvanised chassis.
