Paul, if you are going to keep your car in a container for the winter, you should consider adding a couple of small well-screened vents and a solar-powered fan. Condensation can get pretty heavy inside without ventilation.

I'll be working on the car over the winter, so it will be opened up at least 2 or 3 times a week. I have a small radiant heater that I run while I'm in there and the car is covered when I leave.

Cheeky little run out to Beckworth Emporium for a breakfast and a mooch round all the foo-foo stuff. Old girl didn't want to start - solenoid was just clicking. Originally thought battery (although kept on a smart charger) but same with a jump from the Mrs. Gave the starter a couple of taps with a hammer and she sprang into life. Ran nicely there and back, but didn't got too far as low on fuel and it's not payday till Tuesday........

A mechanic might have charged you £50 for that…50p for the hit with the hammer and £49.50 for knowing exactly where to hit it! 🥴

The old starter motor brushes on the way out so hit it trick.

/Thread drift alert

I once had a 1967 Mk2 Cortina (1500, pre crossflow) with this problem. A krook-lok was the best tool to hit the starter motor with in that instance. It took me a few weeks to get around to putting new brushes in the starter motor and the poor old crook-lok took quite a beating. Months later, when the Cortina had departed the way of all things that rusted in those days, I had replaced it with a Mk3 Triumph Spitfire. One sunny day, Mrs F & I went to visit an NT property. The krook-lok seized solid. I didn't have a hack saw in the boot - only a fine finishing file. It took 30 minutes to file through the krook-lok in a busy car park. Not one person challenged us. It could have been because the Spitfire, at that time, wasn't exactly pristine!

/End drift

Decided the weather was just about good enough to head out for a drive today, for the first time this year.

Only a few minutes drizzle up in the Lakes, so I just kept going. The roads were very quiet, being out of season.

Was really nice to back behind the wheel again - a month seems too long without a "fix!"

Photo is near south end of Coniston Water.

Yep I cracked yesterday. The roads were dry , the sun was shining so a fast blast to the sea front. The wind of the N Sea was a tad cold though.

Ditto, took Morton to local nature reserve at East Wreatham to walk the dog. Started fine after 4 weeks lay up.

Bright & sunny day down here in Kent, so a quick blast round the local roads. First time out since the BHM Christmas Party on 10 December.
