Hello

Owner of a new 4/4 sport sport sand since 1st december. This is my second morgan 4/4.The previous one was from june 2000.I have a question about the suspension wich is very hard compared
to my other car.The car is very unpleasant to drive .Is it because the car is new ? After how many miles will the
suspension becomes softer?

Thanks

I have had my 4/4 bespoke (1.6 Ford) since September 2011 and yes the ride could hardly be described as "Ministerial" after 2,000Ks.

The car was a pig to steer from new and was leaning to one side due to what has been diagnosed a faulty off side rear spring.

All this was doing nothing I am sure to help the suspension or driving comfort but the front bouncing has subsided a little.

I am sure the steering was out of alignment from new and I am about to have both rear springs replaced under warranty. I am sure my “new car” will be much better. However, I suspect we may have to get used to driving a bit of a brick, it’s just the way they are - but you may wish to get the basics checked.

Hello Thierry,
Sorry to hear you are not having the best of times with your new 4/4 sport.
As you have had experience of more than one 4/4 I don't feel that I am best qualified to advise you, but I can say that my 2009 4/4 rides extremely well on most road surfaces.
I feel that my car is quite suitable for long journeys in comfort.
Where the ride quality suffers is usually on pot holed or deeply rutted road surfaces, however, I would not expect the car to be perfect on such surfaces due to it's sporting tendencies and limited suspension travel.

I hope that someone can offer you a drive of another 4/4 sport so you can determine if your car has a problem or if your expectations are higher than the car can offer.
All the best,
N-M

That is exactly what i have done.Last week a gentlemen from another forum let me drive with his car (2009 18000 km). After
50 metres i directly noticed that his car was "confortable".He
then drove with my car and doesnt remember that his car was so hard than mine at the begining.
This is sad because i find the car better than my other car .Better side screens without noise when driving,
better engine (more torque) but i am still running the engine, the finishing of the car is better,etc...

My plus 4 SS rides fairly well on the factory fitted Gaz adjustable shock absorbers, at the softest setting. If you adjust them up the ride gets very hard.

These might be worth a try, they arn't very expensive.

Post up a few pictures of the sport sand paint finish. It is quite a rare colour choice, I have ordered my M3W in this colour.

Hi Thierry242, I took delivery of a +4 at the beginning of September. On the way home, the car displayed an oscillating bounce which was noticible at the front. This would occur on
fairly flat roads at different speeds as well as when slowing down. I called the dealer who sold the car to me, as the test drives I had in both the 4/4 and the +4 did not have this characteristic. He advised me that this was normal for a new car, and that it would settle down after 1500 miles/ 2400 kilometres. That proved to be the case. Other than that the only time I feel the ride to be harsh is when I get a jolt when driving over a dip in the road more than the width of the car. I hope that helps.

Maybe, the tire pressure is too high? I drive with 1.4bar and the ride is very well.

I don't have much experience of Morgans but if it is any help I found the factory hire/demo Plus 4 a much more compliant ride than my friend's 1999 4/4.

After reading quite a lot about suspension and talking to some experts I have ordered the GAZ adjustable shocks to be fitted on the car whilst under construction. It is worth noting that someone in this forum commented that the ride of the Plus 4 SS was even better than the standard Plus 4 that he tried on the same day. The SS is fitted with the GAZ shocks.
