Googling…I see that with some I.T. skills, ( and courage) it is also possible to program a new one with the original mileage reading.

Thanks for the advice all. Will try the hair dryer treatment and have ordered a spare part as well, £17.82 in total. Oakmere are checking on whether it's an MOT fail, originally said no but are checking when I mentioned mileage history for MOT.

If you can get the odometer reading to work briefly at home, take a photo, the MOT chap may accept that ?

Will be out with the hairdryer tonight, MOT tomorrow.
