Investigated my front indicator not working and found its a combination of the below corrosion and a own bulb. The top brass nut that the lens screw, screws into was not attached to the back plate. So guess its allowed water ingress and its pooled at the bottom and rusted up. Squirted so acf50 in and let it penetrate for a bit before trying the old bulb, but that's a gonna. A new bulb worked. What part do I need to order for a 2004 roadster? Preferably one that won't take my eyes out 😂

The usual problem for the classic Lucas indicators.

They are available all over Britain at classic car dealers. I‘ve got some from BHM.

And: drill two drainholes left and right from the loser screw.

I also put a very thin smear of silicone grease on bulb/fitting. Despite being known as dielectric grease, at the points of electrical contact the grease is pushed out of the way so no discernible electrical resistance. It does however ward off corrosion which definately does add resistance, as well as aiding bulb removal later.

Replacement lamp should be Lucas L691 Leroy, with pointed lens. The same number should appear on your OE lens to confirm. Click below for source.

Note later Roadsters and certainly my 2018 3.7 used L794 at the front only. This has a deeper lens with flatter front which accomodates an integral reflector although the base is the same.

I've been warning owners for years that this is a recurring issue with Trads, first thing you should do with even a brand new Mog is take the fronts apart and coat fixings with waxoil and bulb / socket as per V6 Richard's advice

Many thanks

Lots of great advice here. Think I'll strip things back in the first instance and do the remedial work and see how it goes. Thanks guys

Where exactly should I drill the drain holes?

I put one at the bottom one side of the screw fitting with my finest drill

In cause the German Angst and in fear of the god of darkness I drill two (about 3mm) holes. Left and right the lower (not loser as some answers earlier) screw.
