Gareth, if the existing discs are in reasonable condition you could consider having them skimmed
Also, a heads up to check the runout when you fit new ones, they are batch machined (suspect not always checked) and sometimes are not spot on when new

Is there any merit in "running in" the new disks in an attempt to prevent warping?
The OE disks on my 2014 4/4 became badly warped - to the extent that the pedal could be uncomfortable under braking. New disks were fitted 2 years ago and I took great care of them for a few months. So far they have yet to warp. Did my careful use in the initial period help or was I just lucky in getting better quality disks second time round?

I had four sets of brake discs under warranty. No matter how careful I was at the beginning, they all pulsed and fluttered, so that after 7000 km each set I could no longer drive at all. Only the brake discs that had been ground down directly on the wheel solved the problem.

Sounds to me like it might have been the mating surface on the stub axle that was at fault rather than the discs themselves?
I can't remember why, but I removed my discs about 15 years ago and when I replaced them I had a dreadful pulsing through the brake pedal as if the discs were warped. Double-checked the mounting and somehow I'd managed to trap a tiny bit of debris between the disc and stub axle mounting faces. Cleaned them up and flatted them off with a bit of emery cloth and some engineer's blue, reassembled and they've been perfect ever since. This sounds a very plausible solution Tim although probably not an answer for everyone with disc runout issues. Machined mating surfaces between hub and disc need to be scrupulously clean and free from burrs or damage. Securing bolts should then be tightened in a diagonal sequence culminating in equal torque on each.
