Whow this lady could be journalist of the year.
She had me listening to her story on BBC news early this morning, speaking out despite the fact she was rudely and repeatedly interrupted.
It brought a frantic reply from Matt Hancock who phoned the BBC with a denial that he had texted her during the night. The denial immediately given air soon after.
The truth is many things went wrong with government during covid and we need it to learn lessons quickly.
farmer Isabel Oakeshott gets my vote!

‘Lessons will be learned” - is the casual get-out clause for all political disasters these days by those who now represent a once Great Britain.

We shall not be passing to our children the country we inherited.

What a good woman she is.

What would Winston Churchill say? "Never in the field of human politics were so many lied to by so few."

Why is there only one monopolies commission??

Isabel Oakeshott would seem to be very skilled in argument and I very much doubt if she would ever make any move that would other than advantage herself... She perhaps displayed a bit of her true self on Daily Politics when the panel discussion was if I remember correctly on cuts to welfare payments (?) or somesuch and Oakeshott retorted that "they", do not need to buy Lurpak, perhaps in reference to those on welfare ?.... Kinda smacked of "let them eat cake" as was declared in times past by someone who paid the price for that sort of attitude...?

Happy to be corrected if I picked that up incorrectly..

Yes - it's what authors do to promote books isn't it innocent

BTW they still didn't create the level of damage that Tony Blur did with his lying about the evidence and sudden death of the brilliant Dr Kelly, and his legacy will last forever in those countries sadly.

Politics is an inherently immoral trade as far as I'm concerned and the media that fawn around them plying their trade..

Didn't she sign a non disclosure agreement?
So she's a woman of her word then.
We can rely on her integrity for sure

I feel a bit conflicted here.

I do not have an issue with this sort of content coming into the public eye. However the cause and effect of this is that public faith in the system is perpetually undermined by actions like this. Both the actions and publishing.

1. If he did not do his background research before choosing her then he is a bigger fool than I had him down for.
2. She has a publicly known history of choosing her benefit over others - the second result on Google brings this https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-journalist-who-turned-over-matt-hancock
3. If the facts are there then it becomes accountable and judgable in those roles.

Her history has always been publicly against the lockdown so given he is not a total fool you have to wonder why he chose her other than to time a later grenade for PR?
Her partner is in a similar position relative to the Gov.

Who was it who (roughly) said "dumb is as dumb does"

As for the NDA, given her historic proven actions it would be a waste of time getting her to sign one. Look at the Gruiniad article above and see what she has done in the past.

It's a mystery why he selected her unless it was for deliberate PR escalation as its often the case in this modern soundbyte sochul medieer world we suffer. Who lets a fact get in the way ?

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

We get the Government and the Journalists we deserve. Apart from Private Eye and Byline Times, I give none of them any credence.

I think she might regret that .... all the messages in question have been submitted to the Public Inquiry so her 'public interest' defence looks very thin ..... and the "I was worried it would be a whitewash" might be viewed unfavourably by a Judge as it questions the integrity of the Chair of the Inquiry, who is herself a former Appeal Judge ... so basically saying 'you Judges can't be trusted' .

Journalists often rely on the reluctance of Politicians to engage with slanted reporting for fear of constant ongoing 'revenge' stories (easier to weather the minor injustice to avoid a press witch-hunt) .... Hancock has stated he's leaving politics so may be less reluctant to pull a journalist into court.
