Not a big fan of 'modern stuff'. All a bit too sanitised and boring. Drove a mates Porker (C4S) a few years ago and thought the performance and engineering was amazing, but ultimately would get very bored of it very quickly. Bit like owning a speedboat - once you've driven really fast in a straightline, and done a few tight circles, there's not much else to do with it.....
I'd probably go for something old and British - MGB Roadster, Sptifire, Sunbeam Alpine or equivalent (if two seat, soft top is a criteria). Something I can tinker with, and get the best out of it with driver skill rather than electronic aids.

I like them too but just like the MX5 and Abarth are not built for six footers at 14 stone so it is out of the calculation for me. I'm also not a big fan of modern cars, too. But if it has to be a current production car and money is no object, then I like the very different Caterham and the Bentley Continental GT Cabriolet. In the budget league, I like the MX5.
If Morgan really didn't exist, I would drive MG TC or Ford Model A roadster in real life.

The Abarth/Mx5 debate is interesting.
All I can add is that a friend who has had a series of Mx5's wanted an Abarth so bad, he sold his Mx5 (in two days privately), travelled a huge distance to road test an Abarth (both autos), and was so underwhelmed by it that he came straight home and bought another Mx5.
He was a bit vague about why but did say he didn't rate the engine. Funny old world, because on looks the Abarth is streets ahead.
